I am wanting to purchase BeamNG but minimum graphics is shown to be a GTX 550 TI. I currently have a GTS 450 which should be just a step below the minimum (still Direct X 11). Will BeamNG detect graphics and refuse to start up, or do I have a chance at running and overclocking to a decent condition? Rest is 6 core AMD and 24 GB of ram.

You really should upgrade your GPU. Yes, overclocking may help but not by much.

Upgrading will be the plan for Thanksgiving weekend sales. Overclocking will be to "get by" until then.

I don't see it as much help. Overclocking only does so much.

I have an even worse GPU, and I’m able to get a consistent 30fps on most maps with everything on medium or high and static reflections. Since your other components seem to be in-spec, I think you’ll be fine.

Forgot to take into account the other specs lol. I’m just talking about the GPU in general.

    I had a GTS450 several years ago.
It's not a very great card, and it seemed to run pretty poorly on DirectX11 applications.

Said that, the card is DirectX11 compatible, so the game would run, there's no much reason for it not to.
Getting it to run the game smoothly is a different topic.

Can you please describe in details the 'refuse to startup' part?

That said can you even overclock a GTS 450?

Think so, I don't recall any problems overclocking GPUs on desktop.
I do know though that Nvidia does not allow some GPUs to be overclocked on laptops.

"refuse to start" - I have some photography software that detects your systems graphics card and will flat out "pop up a box" and tell you the graphics is not good enough to run the program. The program will then close.

You need a new graphics card. Making an old graphics card slightly more powerful will do nothing.

I've run the game on Intel HD 620 graphics before and was still able to run it at 720p 30fps with the lowest settings and shadows disabled, so you should be fine.
