Can we all just agree that the informative button is for the memes and that most of the time it serves no real purpose other than to tell someone that there post is flawed or no one cares?

I think we need a "Dislike" and "Disagree" Rating- If you want to weigh in on something, having to reply to a post with "I disagree/think this is bad, blah blah blah" Encourages arguments. For example, let's say someone uploads a mesh slap- you have the oppourtunity to dislike as opposed to saying anything in the thread.
Bring back the "Funny" rating too. Please.
    i beg of you

Seriously though, it's probably best to explain why you disagree/dislike something on a forum, rather than what could be considered pasive agressively marking posts with disagrees with no real explanation (which is what i believe happened when we still had those buttons?).
Also, the informative button insn't really useful, but using it in a 'memey' way isn't the way to go :).

    *Disagree button*
    See? No flamewar!
One option would be to make voting anonymous and not tied to your profile.

The problem is that people would abuse the disagree button as they have in the past. If I recall correctly, the disagree and dislike buttons lasted less than 2 weeks when they were added because they were so heavily abused.

It is useful in some situations. Like for example if someone was explaining how jbeaming works and how to make a jbeam, that would be informative.

To add on to my previous post, the idea behind the removal of the disagree button was to force people to think about what they don't like about something/why they disagree, therefore prompting a friendly discussion about whatever topic. The problem is the person that starts or participates in flamewars, not the lack of an easily abused button.

    It's literally human nature
we always think we are right. we always feel we are infallible, thus, we must retaliate.
Now, its normally just the occasional flamewar from someone, but when those buttons existed, whoo it was so much worse.
it would lead people to rate bad or whatever, then they would feel more at ease yelling at someone for a crappy mod/comment. Now it's normally a polite but snippy reply/critism to get the point across, but no real crude behavior. The devs have done a good job reigning in this community to be a mostly kind and supportive group of enthusiasts.
that's why it lasted for so little. I think that the funny rating deserves a comeback, but disagree/dislike are too prone to abuse, like you said.

I'd like to remind you that the developers added a ton of new ratings once, including dislike and disagree. The ensuing shitshow was so bad they removed every single reaction, then for weeks you had people making posts just saying "I like this" or "I agree". Eventually they added back likes, and later agrees and informatives. Let's not go through that again, shall we?

The issue is those few people using it incorrectly, thinking they are some kind of meme-lords, but failing hard to it. Or for the sake of annoying the others, as @Zero is doing here.

If you start using correctly, then it makes sense. If you don't, then we have more reasons to remove that choice than keep it. Unfortunately we cannot disable ability to give ratings per user, as I think it would be a better solution instead.

    So, up to you guys.

I thought this was about informative. Because Like, Agree, and Informative are really basic and good for the forums. "Funny" is simply a deeper meaning of "Like" and "Informative" is more specific than "Like" sure, but some things, you may not have liked, yet you accept.

I use it pretty often... like, to rate posts that were actually informative to me. So, yeah, for me it's definitely useful.

Remove it, and some other form of rating will replace it... Remove them all, since the userbase is apparently way too immature to properly use instruments they have been given, and there, problem solved.

Then we end up with people spam posting with threads or reply's of I agree. Minnor misuse by like 10 people is nothing it's when 50% of the active user base try's to become a meme lord is when problems start. It's a lose lose situation. Just which one impacts people less. Now I'm going back to watch the fireworks go.
