My dad has a 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid that he got from my grandpa when he upgraded, and it already has rust. 70,000 miles, always in a heated garage, washed frequently, the whole nine yards. Thankfully, it’s only tiny spots of surface rust, but it’s absolutely ridiculous that a car that age has rust already. Minnesota’s salty streets are not entirely to blame, as there’s some known quality issues with the particular color, but the point is that it’s rusting. I see people writing tersely worded letters to the local newspaper yelling about how they slid into a curb and it’s the city’s fault cause you gosh darn penny pinchers don’t even want to spend money on salt, and I know for a fact you have money for salt and you hate the city and yadda yadda yadda. Shut up, Andrew, just because you bombed your campaign for city council doesn’t mean that everything is the city’s fault, because you know, salt doesn’t even work when it gets below 10 degrees, which it gets basically every day of a Minnesota winter. So yeah, moral of the story, nice cars, no rust.
Looks good to me, they are good cars. My grandma has a 99, right around 100K, she’s had it for about 15 years, no major repairs. Kind of fun to drive, comfortable. It is starting to rot pretty bad, and most of the clear coat has peeled off, but it still runs great.
now see do i want to be driving a grandma car (no offense lol) i mean, i guess i have no choice with a 3500 budget
Heck, if you’re gonna be in a grandma car anyway, maybe go all out and get something like a Park Avenue. I’m only half joking. For me, though, a car like that would fall into the “love to own, but could never justify owning” category, especially with you being in California and probably never breaking above 20 MPG in a full-size Buick. The one nice automotive thing about the Midwest in the sea of drawbacks is that we have cheap gas, right now it’s something like $2.60 a gallon, which is certainly not the case out west.
I have a 1999 Buick Regal LS with the NA 3.8, and it is a great first car. It is the most comfortable vehicle that I have been in, its faster than modern NA 4 cylinders, and they are reliable. I got mine with 91,000 miles on it with a full service history, and have had it for over a year. It feels fun to drive because the cars limits are low due to the suspension acting like its out of GTA 4. There are some problems with plastic coolant lines that run out of the water pump, but they can be upgraded to aluminum and mine haven't broken since. Other than that, I haven't had any problems that weren't caused by me. Nissan Maximas are good because they can be found with manual transmissions, but they are often beat up, have higher mileage, and/or don't have any service history. I personally don't like the Maxima because they have a dead axle in the rear which makes no sense in a "sports luxury" car.
Maybe take a look at the late 90s/early 2000s Lexus GS300. They’re pretty bulletproof from what I’ve read, and they have a 2JZ (albeit N/A) going to the rear wheels. They’re really common in the northeast and under 3k reliably.
ha i wish i could say the same. in Sac they are rather rare, and even then they are turds. all of them have stupid high mileage or are beat up and riced to high hell. If i do find one that isnt listed at an exorbitant price then sure, I'll pick it up. thanks though.
So my VW Golf is now completly broken the Battery ABS ESP one of the wheelbearings and brakes are completly done the timing belt probably soon needs to be done as well and the engine now consumes loads of oil. The total cost in a workshop is more than the car would be worth after that. Also forgot the rear wiper is broken the wheelarches are completly rusted away also the steering wheel vibrates more than a XBOX 360 controller when you go over a kerb in Forza and the tires go in diffrent directions when you go over a pothole. Basically i now have 2 options try and trade it in for a new winter car or try and get a deal for winter tires and rims for my other car.
Considering making a new old BeamNG car ad, thought I'd toy around with what I can do in Blender and Vegas while thinking of ideas and was pretty pleased with the (extremely short) result.
Got back from my family (inc. grandparents) holiday in Pembrokeshire today. Did a fair bit of walking, nothing more than 4 miles in a day, since I am not currently in a position to do more than that comfortably. Walking holidays are never really my thing, but it was enjoyable. Rather than unpacking, the first thing I did when I got back was bleed the front brake on my bike. The brake feels way better than it did before, and for a first attempt, I am quite happy, even if it was a bit of a faff to do. Hopefully they won't need touching for at least the next 8 months, but if they do, at least I now have the tools and some past experience to make it go a bit smoother. As always, 1 or 2 spanners were thrown into the works, such as mineral oil bubbling out of the brake lever when the bleed port was removed, which isn't supposed to happen. It doesn't seem to matter how many service manuals I read, or how many guides I watch, there is always at least one thing that isn't as it was described. Whether it is oil being in places where there is supposed to be none, or bolts/screws/hydraulics etc being redesigned or in different locations. But its all learning, and once you've figured it out once, you can do it again. Being able to work on your own stuff will always be a useful skill to have.
I got BeamNG running really smooth in 4K on high settings. For anyone wondering, yes it is worth it if you like having nice clear interior gauges. 4K makes them so much easier to read than 1080p. The CPU and GPU used to produce this result: Ryzen 7 3700X AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
first video i have ever edited. It was for my older brother's YT channel. Mostly do Destiny stuffs. Forgive for kinda cringe intro, not my intro. it's just the one they use for the channel, used it per orders. Overall it's very funny imo. I recommend checking it out.
