Off topic but 'ok boomer' is just a meme that's been around for the past few months, getting increasingly popular in the last week or two.

So yea, it's just a joke, not an insult.

It's literally all over the internet right now, not sure how you haven't noticed tbh :p

It's quite simple: widespread availability of "the Internet" and memes are byproducts of modernity... :p

I'm familiar with the meme, but the use of it in this case kind of shows the lines he's thinking along.

"Design peaked in the 90's" Bahahahaha WHAT.
AbsoLUTELY not. You must have a tumor that takes up 90 percent of your brain to think that car design peaked in the 90s. Did you see the DN101 Taurus of the 90s? That awful thing? What about the fact that you could barely crack four-hundred horsepower with a V-8 too big for any sensibly-sized car? Even worse, remember the Dustbuster? How could anyone in their right mind ever think that the U-Platform vans were well-designed, I mean they looked like a doorjam and fell apart when you breathed near them. Oh yeah, remember the Sunbird? (Yeah I'm going there.) The suspension, for being rather modern for the time, seems to be made of cardboard (Along with the rest of the car), the 3.1 liter V-6 sounds like a lawnmower with rod knock at idle and wheezes out an anemic 140 horsepower. FROM 3.1 LITERS. (Yes the Turbo model made at max 165 horsepower, but for a turbo-four of it's size that's just unacceptable.)
Fact is: Automotive design hasn't peaked YET, give it another twenty years and it probably will peak. We're going through a serious 1958 right now (All cars seem to be rather poorly designed on the outside, and rehashed versions of other models on the inside.) but we're on a turning point.
Also that "emissions restrictions bad" stuff you yammer on about really just proves where you stand on the future of the environment.

Whew, with that out of the way:

I know we have a serious lack of newer cars in the game, but i'm really hoping for a rear-drive 70's american Subcompact at some point. Plox gib gremlin.

That in theory would be a good argument but it's turbocharged. But hey-ho: The slant-six in a Valiant Signet (sporty version iirc) made 148 horses in the effing-sixties.

I disagree there, 1955-62 was probably the golden age in automotive design (in the US at least)

Cars were art, and it was pretty much just form over function.

Although art is interpretive, so it's just my opinion :)
The leaning tower of power ;)

The 1961 year model hardtop Valiant was pretty much the unofficial birth of the pony car. (the ones with the 225 ci Slant-6)

At least in 1958 designers cared about the car that they styled and did often a fair bit to differentiate the car from the '57s, not to mention that you could actually drive them and look like you had a million dollars on your back pocket even if it was a fairly basic model. Oh did I mention that petrol was only a few cents a litre, also you say that in twenty years time that cars are going to be new designed cutting edge technological advances then your absolutely right yet how many years are those designs going be on the market for, 10, 15 years maybe. As time moves on the importance of the automobile is going downwards and surely by then autonomous vehicles will be somewhat common, I mean after all who want that silly old thing over there that still has a thing called a steering wheel when I can save up for a few more months then I can buy this perfectly safe and economical driverless vehicle that will get me to A to B so I can go on a drinking binge with my friends and come home without a ticket or fine or not come home at all. Those brand new models will soon fall into the same loop we have going on right now, so no, this is not a 1958 as cars are not going to get better, but they are going to fade into oblivion... they are going to become less and less car like and have more emphasis placed on occupant safety and petrol economy to point where auto makers just stop making the car and start making driverless pods

well I always thought that the Barracuda was the original pony car but I can see how that is as well, I only wish Ford never made the "mustang" (im sure that will be a highly unpopular opinion) sure they're nice and all but too common, hell every one loves a mustang

    That's a good thing
Not really, car companies that were once innovative and now only pretend to be *cough cough* ford *cough cough* will likely ax their human-driven cars, but i'd bet that one or two foreign automakers will keep producing a sporty, human driven car. It's too big of a market to ignore.

And i can sense a "DrIVInG FeEEl" argument coming on, so I'll say this-
A brand new Impala or Corvette most likely feels better to drive than its older counterpart. Are modern cars more plasticky and computerized? Sure are, but don't go on a boomer-esque rant about it. Fact is, modern cars are easier to control, have less detrimental quirks (Hood ornaments that are a hazard to pedestrians, poor safety/body roll abundance, etc are not present on most modern cars), and are generally smaller in size.
If you have such prolific wet dreams about driving feel, buy a classic car and stop whining about how "new car bad" and "old car good"

-of course I agree with you in terms of pedestrian safety and handling issues with older cars and that new cars are almost certainly better in a lot of way than older variants
    - im not a baby boomer, i'm a millennial
-and I already have a classic car (well I'm the only one who drives it now anyway), a 1976 Holden Torana hatchback V8
