Got a letter today from the insurance company of the woman that collided with me in August.

She's had the audacity 3 months later to file a claim that I was at fault, her insurance company sent me a bill for her car. I contacted my insurance company & they've told me not to correspond with her insurance or sign anything, They have a copy of my dashcam footage & will be fighting her claim as it is entirely bogus. My insurer also said they will be investigating her claim as they find it suspicious that it is not only inaccurate but also took so long to be filed. Also I t-boned her, the bill includes work to the tailgate of the car (tail lights & parking sensors etc), I'll wait to here back from my insurer first but am considering submitting a claim to the Insurance Fraud Bureau of Australia. What an absolute b***h

My neighbor gave me his old Yamaha Excel III snowmobile. He said it last ran 6 years ago before he parked it. It’s a shame he left it outside, because it was beautiful when he got it. Should be fun to get it running again, and hopefully use it this winter.

I used my tractor to drag it out of the woods and load it onto the trailer.

I kind of want to get one of those and put wheels in place of the ski things. The only problem is that it is impossible to get one in Florida, and I have never seen one in person. Good luck with your project!

That would be cool. You might be able to get one shipped for a reasonable price.

I wouldn't have any place to ride it or store it though. Maybe if I ever move north.

Well as for updates from me, got a tall case clock (grandfather clock) that is between 197 to 207 years old in my house at the weekend, total lunacy as for other things on Saturday I managed to get stopped at the lights, okay sounds boring, okay well try being stuck at those lights for 15 minutes with them NOT changing for you while 3 other roads got traffic lights we didnt, I eventually had to make the call to go through the red lights because they were FUCKING BROKEN! and get up the road and I made the right call at the right time to get through and I missed the chance to see the internal workings of the clock, more than likely I will remove the top section of the clock very carefully to get a look at it tomorrow.

As for techy stuff....well had my network go down on me 4 times and everything was connected correctly and it made no sense to me and nothing was wrong at my dads end with the network settings he could ping my computer but I couldnt ping him or the internet, weird bug I donno. As for recently I just shifted 171GB of data off my computer to the NAS box I have :) thats a total of 289 files and 8 folders :) so I am very pleased about that and I have a maximum of 500GB and I have used up 171GB so far.....so 329GB remaining, if I do the rest of the files I will have less than 10GB remaining....urrgh pains of having lots of video files, but who cares I will anyway :D

After almost four years away from Blender, I've decided I really wanted a Douglas DC-3 in BeamNG. I'm borderline hysterical at this point, completely forgot everything about modeling, beams/nodes, and what even is photoshop now. Had plans to make the DC-6 next, but I may not survive that long.

Oh, it is not you forgetting, they just have changed everything, Blender and Gimp tends to be bit random, new versions are different to use. I'm stuck with 2.78a because of that :p

Small MTB fun today, 34km of forest trails, frozen ponds got white covering as there was little snowing. Nothing beats fun of root infested singletrack at 40kph+ at subzero temps.

If you thought wet roots are bad, try icy roots, that's just insane how quickly tire slips on such.

Same, can't get used to the new one, even if I keep getting told it's easier to use and more user-friendly.

I have been using blender for 5+ years. I use the current version, for my workflow it brings huge improvements. Just the inclusion of good shading/lighting in the viewport saves me considerable time by allowing me to spot polygons that cause shading errors without an export (because I can see the dodgy reflections inside blender). The inclusion of an option to apply all modifiers on export is also incredibly useful. It prevents me from forgetting to undo an "apply all modifiers" operation after every export, forgetting to do so has probably lost me many hours of work over the years. The ability to organise objects into folders quickly and easilly via the new outliner is a true godsend, the R20 has a lot of objects.

The improvents were actually so big that I was willing to ditch the old Blender before the current version was actually released, I fully switched to the beta's. I knew that any time lost due to stability would be offset by time gained and problems avoided (and tbf, stability remained pretty good, only a few crashes).

In general, not much has changed for the worse either. There are some things that have been moved which still catch me out, but overall I am way happier and more productive with the current version.

Is that apply all modifiers different to what 2.78 has?
    upload_2019-11-26_19-41-50.png

I find this Matcap and backface culling to be very useful for shading evaluation stuff, I used to have thing that did show kind of stress of polygons that was kind of helpful with shading evaluation, but have forgotten name of it.

Sure, 2.8 would have some good things for me too, but not enough for it to be worth of learning, I learn so slowly these days that I rather spend limited time on making something simple than learning something complex.

Same thing, didn't realise they had added that before the new version. I was still using the "alt+c" hack to do it manually before each export. When I first learned Blender, that was the only way it could be done (according to the blender artists forums at least, maybe we were all just blind xD).
I added a photo to the above post to make what I meant clearer. Personally I like it when stuff like this is made blindingly obvious, if I have to apply a filter to check something, I will only notice problems when I check for them. If I can see the problem as soon as I do that action that causes it, it means I can address it while it is still painless to fix with an undo. Not to mention it allows me to learn what actions can be problematic much quicker if the results are immediate.

To be clear, the new version of Blender isn't really something where you have to learn how to use Blender from scratch again. For me it was a case of jumping in without knowing how things worked, and then working as I did with the previous versions. Whenever I encountered something different, I would look up or figure out how to do it in the new version and learn through doing. So I was already up and running smoothly within a few nights.

The only changes I made was to tell Blender that I prefer the old mouse system (right click to select things), and move the "headers" to the bottom of the panes. This was just for familiarity.

Messing with a shader that uses a texture for AO and lighting information
    upload_2019-11-27_8-3-39.png upload_2019-11-27_8-4-28.png

It uses the red channel for extra lighting, and the green channel for AO. The lightmap textures look like this:
    upload_2019-11-27_8-5-43.png

Not too happy with how AO behaves though. I might need to look into other, more complex methods.

    ----------

I've also been making progress on my Rally Championship 2000 level editor. Billboard and flare objects now work correctly, and I'm now loading the baked vertex lighting data.
    upload_2019-11-27_8-7-59.png

I also built an importer, and made a quick and dirty version of pikes peak

Man that looks utterly awesome I guess base skills for making models in 1 game can be used to model for other games as well, well its a crude understanding I have of it :p

He programs shaders and stuff like that himself, hacks and remakes old games, creates mods, Dummiesman is like superhuman or something, he is not restricted to just make models, he can reverse engineer things and then rebuild them to more awesomeness.

What Dummiesman does goes way beyond modeling or typical modding, he is pretty much kick ass hacker (oh, hacker was a good thing until media made it bad, I still think hacker is a good thing) I think.
