Considering we can make custom apps and UIs, I'm surprised there haven't been more dashboard HUD mods... you know, things like a GPS/radar, more tachometers, etc. I know it's possible, I mean there was a minimalist tachometer that was pretty cool, but I'm surprised stuff like this isn't more widespread. I mean Assetto Corsa had tons of HUD mods, for example, and since you can do that stuff in BeamNG.drive too, I figured we'd get more stuff. For example, a Forza Horizon tachometer or Initial D Arcade Stage tachometer app for BeamNG could be cool. Just different racing game UIs as a novelty for BeamNG. Especially if you're someone like me who plays it Need For Speed style and does street racing in the massive open-world maps in this game, and a cool racing UI could make it feel cooler. Or a Blackbox NFS style drag racing HUD for when you do drag race scenarios. I don't know, I'm just ranting about a neat feature I wish was more widespread in these mod forums...
I came up with the same idea months ago and I also don’t know how to do a Tacho; not even a simple app (as I never made one before) You could ask other people who made apps if they have any advice... maybe also the devs. I wouldn’t know how to go about this differently
To begin learning, you need to go to this folder, steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive\ui\modules\apps\Tacho2 Files in that folder, so we can see how CSS and JavaScript are something one needs to know, also there is Vector graphics, which look odd when opened in GIMP 2.10, also app.js has SVG+XML as type, so I don't know if that SVG is some kind of hybrid file that has XML inside of it, but what I know is that none of these files contains clear definition where to read variable and which part of UI element to put that variable. XML would perhaps define where to read variable and where to put variable, but that is not in folder, is it embedded into SVG and how to get it out from it, I have no idea and that might be reason why there is so little of such mods, it is hard to figure it out. There are other UI apps in that apps folder, examining others might give better idea about it, but would need good tutorial how to make tacho to be any chances to make something of such.
