What is the best version of Windows/MS-DOS to install on a new PC? THIS IS up for 2 years. There will be some new Windows because of how long it is.
Nothing older than 10 is reasonable to install on a new PC, unless you like running legacy software for some reason. Also, yeah Windows ME was basically just 98SE with a whole bunch of bugs added to it. Windows 1 and 2 were never all that relevant either. It was Windows 3 that really set it off.
Still doing lots with Windows98, it sucks so many ways, but UI was pretty good in that. XP with Windows98 look is also ok. Windows 8.1 is fine if tweaked to be as close as 98 as possible, but just too much bloat automatic nonsense. Still Windows XP had some features that 8.1 does not have, like you could actually customize all the colors of UI freely etc. I still like DOS 5 most though, 6 and 6.22 were like feature crippled versions of what 5 was. Can't get along with win 10, it's just plain wrongly made in so many levels and UI design is plain out horror, with wasted screen estate. But I guess it essentially come to if you want to be control of OS or if you want OS to be control of you.
With group policies and registry edits you can force Windows 10 into behaving how you want it to. For example, I have telemetry and automatic updates forced off. I have full control of exactly when I apply updates. I do agree that Windows 10 is ugly, but some of my games need DirectX 12 to perform their best, so I need 10.
Please post a vid because I currently have to use task manager each time I restart my computer and kill it.
