I don't think that you can judge BeamNG cars by looks alone. For example Barstow is very much like Torino in looks, but it is more closer to Mustang etc. in size, weight, etc. Track Miramar and Kingsnake are perhaps one of the best cars to drive on track, imo. They feel really good when driving. However even with fps locked to 118 there is this slowness in FFB when during cornering I quickly turn wheel tiny bit left and right, then back which makes feeling like steering rack would have little play. Assetto Corsa FFB is quicker to react in such situations, but then again BeamNG might be more physically correct. Miramar has less boxyness than Fiat though, door windows are much rounder than in Fiat, it is bit like blend of Corona and Fiat visually in some ways: Front blinkers are of similar shape, minus the parking lights and those eye brows are quite bit similar idea, Miramar's facia is like determined little one up for a fight or something like that, blinkers creating squinted eyes effect together with headlights.
I'm not saying it shouldn't exist, just that it's unsettling for such a boxy car to be dressed up as a particular car that had historically completely different proportions. It would be like if the I-Series Evo had larger proportions like a 6-Series or something but still intentionally was made to look like the 190 Evo. Yes it would still be justifiable, but it wouldn't feel right. Spoiler: H/T 2000GTR vs Miramar I can live with seeing that skin on a boxy car but I don't think it's ideal, it's a bit weird. Take the Sonax Mercedes for example. That skin works great on the I-Series but imagine if the I-Series had atypical proportions. Spoiler: 190E vs I-Series I would be far more comfortable with the boxy proportions if it embraced the luxury car persona a bit more. At least rename the "base" config, give the Luxe more differences with the base model.
With ESC, the only thing I've noticed on the 800 series is that it's... maybe a bit too good. It makes it possible to push the car far past its limits, especially in back-to-back S-curves, and tromp on the pedals in a way you normally wouldn't be able to. Then, when you turn it off (which you will eventually have to, because the TC integrated with it absolutely kills your drive out of slow corners and when recovering from a drift), you suddenly have to unlearn a whole raft of bad habits that you picked up without realizing it, just from having a computer to lean on.
As an X1 owner, this is pretty accurate. The way I drive has changed, I recently started driving my old 2012 Honda Civic and I just can't get away with some of the corners I pull at high speed. Feels like driving a GoKart compared to my current-gen X1. This also goes for launching the car, where I can launch like an idiot on the X1 and it will manage to still lift off the line ok, the Civic will spin and the engine will scream (both are automatics).
You are correct. The front blinkers on those 2 car pictures you showed are similar to each other. You are also correct about the Miramar being less boxy and having rounder windows. Good job Anyways, it's December (as of me writing this) and the update still hasn't come out yet sadly.
Roughly 2 weeks from now. Edit: I think it is not going to be at week starting from 16. (15. if week starts at Sunday) because it is unlikely that they will go trough releasing update before holidays and then fixing issues while their holidays. So it is likely update will come before that and enough before to make hotfixes. If not then after the holidays, but my money is on next week, mid to end of the week.
By the way, there are bugs in East Coast USA such as the curve sign issue I brought in the 0.17 discussion thread and trees appearing and disappearing that I hope get fixed in this upcoming update.
There are the following "minor" maps still clearly needing map upgrades. Small Island, USA Port Industrial Site ETK Driver Experience Center. I wouldn't be surprised if the following happens regarding map updates. 0.18: Utah (Pretty much confirmed at this point) 1-2 other map upgrades of "minor" maps. Next update, likely 0.19: JRI (The only other "Major" map needing a rework) The remaining map upgrades.
I really want more information on what the next car is going to be! It's been too long without a teaser for a new vehicle.
As I said before, that's probably because it's probably going to be a long time before we get any new vehicles, including the Wendover and mystery car. Right now, the focus appears to be on reworking older vehicles, like the Grand Marshal and D-Series/Roamer/H-Series. Frankly, I'd much rather have every existing car updated to the same standards (remastered Grand Marshal and Bluebuck) before we see anything new.
Personally I would like to see the cliff map get a nice update. Some new textures, meshes, trees, and jagged rocks could go a really long way without too much effort. Hopefully it's not an abandoned map...
Honestly just a texture upgrade would be nice. I would be hesitant to add trees, as the point of cliff is to launch cars and have them go down the cliff, rather than getting caught on trees.
Your right about the trees, I would want them at the bottom of the cliff or something. That or pepper the mountain with some bushes.
That's the issue with some of the maps. Some trees should not have a hitbox because they're so narrow and obviously wouldn't take down a car realistically.
Until we get a way to seamlessly and dynamically replace map decor with props when the player approaches them, I doubt we'll see anything more than what we already get with bushes. With traffic in the game, I think it could be a feasible way of getting dynamic environments working in the engine.
I would say the Miramar would be closer to the third-gen Corona, 410 Bluebird and maybe an early Mitsubishi Colt 1000.
I'm starting to think its possible that the graphical improvements related to color space will make it in the next update, since each map needs individual tweaking after the upgrade, i'm guessing new Utah will be optimized for this. Also, I don't recall anyone mentioning that we will continue to get more upgrades to the graphics related to HDR rendering which in the latest dev blog says "it enables much more realistic lighting" I'm super eager to see work start on that, which should be after the color space work
