My top 6... 1 Wcusa for having a dragstrip racetrack and dirttrack close by. 2 Italy for just being good looking. 3 Utah for offroading. 4 Gridmap the only map i was able to play on my old pc. 5 Hirochi Raceway for being a racetrack. 6 Automation Test Track for being a racetrack.
My Favorite to least Favorite maps: 1. Grid pure What? I love how the map was so peaceful (no wibbly wobbly roads, etc) so i can see every vehicle's top speed. 2. Gridmap Ah yes, it is the most perfect vehicle-testing map. EVER! 3. WCUSA Yes, mate i love this map. 4. Utah What?!? I know Utah was already revamped, but in my opinion, it is too 'plain' (?) 5. Small island, USA Mhm, this map actually perfect for those low end pc gamers who wants a little shaky, road trip. 6. Jungle rock island 2nd perfect map for those low end pc gamers (and it actually have more places to visit) 7. Italy It's just fine.... 8.East coast, USA It is a good map with a little town on it 9. Automation test track Well, this map is pretty good. Especially for those Automation cars :v 10. Hirochi Raceway Just a raceway, i more like city-driving fells (if you know what i mean). 11. Industrial Site Well it has a race track, and some offroad roads. But still, it just that. 12. Port Port? PORT? I have never used that map, but it has some good environment of an abandoned port... 13. Derby Arenas Good map for crushing and derbies... Not much to say. 14. Cliff It just a sheer cliff. 15. ??? This is my opinion, okay?
Okay, I'm guessing that your least favorite map is ETK Driver Center Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong
Ares IV, I may very well be missing the point, but I for one have pretty much zero interest in testing cars. I'd rather grab them and just tool around in them visiting places. I dig nice scenery with lots of trees where you can't see the horizon line and lose your bearings as to which way is N,S,E, or W. It feels more immersive that way. The grids just don't do that for me. But if I was endurance testing a car, then I suppose the grids would suit me more. (Come to think of it, I think I did use a grid map to test the top speed of a car-- once (I believe it was the Bolide or the new electric car, but it was awhile ago). None of what I say makes your points any less valid... I just wanted you to better understand the reasons for my rankings. Well I can't argue with you on that one there. Especially since we've moved onto v-0.18.xx and not everyone has had it play so friendly with their current computer setups. EDIT: Also, one thing has always confused me about the grid maps. What are the spacing distances between each square? Some are black, and others are gray within black. I'm guessing the distances between each gray line is 1m (3ft)? And between each black line 5m (15ft). [well... 1m= 3.281ft... but close enough of an approx... I round down to x3 when converting m's to ft]. Knowing the square size breakdowns might help me appreciate those maps a bit more.
For me: Utah, a lot of fun for all kinds of vehicles. Gridmap, perfect to test all kinds of cars on. Italy, a lot of fun to cruise around on or play with traffic. ECA, pretty and fun to use with traffic and offroaders. WCA, I like the mountain roads and racetrack on this map. Hirochi Raceway, looks very pretty and the track layouts are short but fun. Automation test track, the tracks are nice to do some racing on. Small island, nice to do some light offroading and rallying on. I like the looks and the layout Jungle rock Island. Nice layout but looks dated and some roads and trials could be improved. Gridmap pure, nice to do some random testing on ETK map, only used to recreate scenarios of driving courses in and to test systems. Industrial, the rally paths through the port and the rallycross track are okay, the rest feels and looks dated and empty. Derby, despite the visual update, I almost never use it. I'm just not a derby guy Cliffs, fun for YouTubers but only fun to reach the top from the beaches imo. Port same as #12 but with less redeeming qualities
Okay. I do think differently about some of these maps then other users do, but like I said earlier, different rankings of these maps really keep the thread interesting. Honestly, I would put Italy, Utah USA, East Coast USA, and West Coast USA in my top 4 and I would put Cliff and Grid Small Pure in my bottom 2. I also think that Small Island USA looks really dated. I don't even think the cloud and wind functions in environment work on that map anymore. Small Island USA, Industrial Site/Port, and Jungle Rock Island really need updates soon.
I think there are people who are in "testing mode", and then there are people who are in "driving mode". And sometimes they're the same exact people, only they're not doing both at the same time. So their rankings on these are going to vary from day to day-- depending upon what they're doing.
Fair enough Anyways, if the BeamNG staff release a new map after they get done with these level remasters, feel free to rank it on here. Also, feel free to bump this thread as long as you are contributing to the topic
Jungle Rock I had largely ignored up until about a week, week and a half ago. Therefore the map is still relatively fresh and exciting to me. I'm amazed how many twists and turns are in that map. You think you're just winding around one small part of it, when in fact all those little twists and turns are slowly working you around the entire "C"-- shaped island. That phenomenon in and of itself I find fascinating. Along with the fact that out of the entire map... there is really only one 4-way intersection on pavement-- the one southwest of the default spawn point. Therefore that makes it an important landmark... the only markedly obvious one. (Other than the port on the NW corner and the airstrip on the SE corner. But then again, those are destinations and not features along the roads).

I'm really glad that people on here are ranking these maps differently. That really keeps this thread interesting. By the way, I have a question for you. Is Grid Small Pure your least favorite map?
Agree with you. I use Grid Small Pure only when I need something to check on mods, because it takes least time to load.
