You're forgetting that the ibishu kashira doesn't come close in terms of the refinement of the suspension r20 does. Suspension geometry is a pretty complicated process I'm keen to say that it's the best handling street car in the game. It has however alot of options that are certainly in spirit of the high customization of Beamng vehicles and is a very good mod after all. My main argument however is that the donation is 1.5 pounds, which is less than a Big Mac costs. It's not enough to be a source of income even. If some mods not being behind some kind of paywall is such a big thing, maybe you're just taking these mods for granted?
Then use the other content and don't buy this? You didn't make it, you're not entitled to anything! Be thankful Aljowen released a free version as well.
You make a fair point there. I'm grateful that the guy released a free version of the mod and you are correct about people not being entitled to anything
Yeah, you're right. The modders can do whatever they want with their content, but that doesn't change the fact that paid mods are a big no-no from the consumer perspective. So of course that a paid mod is gonna be more critisized/backslashed than a free mod, even more if the mod itself has overall lower quality than other mods that are totally free.
then you're an entilted piece of shit. Make your own mods if you're too cheap to support other creators.
I didnt even put my 2 cents in there because its a touchy subject. But trust me when i say that ik what the process of making a mod is. This car, in terms of jbeam and handling. BOI.. its great and it deserves all the praise it can get. But.... one of the major thing i freaking hate about dlc and that bullshit. Taking content from a certain thing, removing said content and selling it as extra content. And this is kinda what i see here. Yeah i know its a supporter thing. No free business model makes money. but this is also only mods. having to pay for a rally version.... cmon wtf 1$ isnt the end of the world. but still. I hate the fact that ive gotta pay for a rally version of a "free" mod. its all i have to say. Car is amazing in terms of quality. but screw having to pay for the rally version. Ill make my own.
Sadly, there are people on the BeamNG forum who don't know how to make mods that aren't Automation vehicles You make a good point there You make a good point. I'm glad that the guy at least made a free version of the mod
It's a generous thing he made the base version available for free. I'd rather pay the $1.50 than to put a lot of time into making a rally version... time is money. In the end you don't pay for the rally version, you pay to support him, hence supporters pack.
It's understandable, although it's not like there's a mental block on making good quality content. It's just a matter of passion. Hence I'm saying that maybe all the top-of-the-shelf mods are being taken for granted. About my previous post, I might've come off a bit harsh, but you have to respect the decision of the creator. He was the one who chose to share his stuff with you after all. And to add to that, Denis-W is right, you're mostly paying to support Alwyn. The two additional configs are just a bonus.
My take: Where is Ivan when you need him. Someone will leak it sooner rather than later, and i really doubt you can get any sort of DRM other than drip feed features on pay walled updates. Which would be even worse, and still isnt safe. Wanna know why? Because this game isnt made for paid mods. Also, are those two configs really worth that money? I really doubt it. If you made a nice mod and i enjoy it, im willing to donate some money, not the other way around. Every game goes down this path at some point, and if we let this continue, we are going to start seeing more and more paid mods, and that is when you see this community collapse like a star.
WARNING: OPINIONS IN THIS POST I personally believe that paid mods are not evil. A mod being a paid mod or not is not decided by the quality of it, but up to the author. Most people whining about them are just sad that they miss out on content they take for granted. I know that BeamNG has a lot of players because of the mods. I don't see why you want to compare those mods. Its just like software, not everything is free and things are different. I would not compare the Old's to a modern car. Maybe in their mesh/jbeam quality but they still do/are something completely different. Many of the modders here make content because it's their hobby to create stuff, or because they want to add something specific for this game. That some of them are nice enough to share it with you is nice. The way they do that is completely up to them. Aljowen has his reasons to make a mod, and I don't really think that breaking the downloads record (CRD currently) is his goal. That he doesn't want to share everything is understandable. I don't share everything I do in my spare time with people either. Wouldn't be practical to invite all of you to see our model train layout either... Paid mods being a no-no is also complete bullshit. How do you think that youtubers get all those cars? Those youtubers earn their living with those videos and (often) pay people to convert/make cars for them so they have content to use. And those cars are mainly meshslaps and bad compared to many mods that HAVE TO BE FREE REEEEEE according to the majority of the playerbase. I spent hundreds of hours on the Fintray (a lot of that was learning things and testing stuff) and a lot of money on going to (optional) events for pictures and even drove to the other side of the country twice to get information on it. I do this as a hobby and don't expect to get that money back, it's all for fun. But I think that people should take a moment and think about this. To give some ideas: I got the blueprints for the Fintray (MG TD). Those were printed by someone for free. My father drove 50 km extra one day to pick them up on his way back from work. That took him an hour and 50*19ct=~9 euro. I drove to the other side of the country twice for the race version, again, this was not completely necessary but I did it. That was 220km one way... This is just to give you an idea. Modding isn't a magical process where people free-form a car. We spend hours and hours on searching, reading and learning about cars, dynamics and content creation. And then, what do we get? This: Just some examples of people raping the review sections and people asking for more content... This goes on and on and on. Not to mention that some incredibly stupid and retarded people (highly respected by a good portion of the forum users) even mock and bully people because of their mods. I sometimes wonder why people even bother to upload stuff because of all this shit. Yes, but not many people do this so if you want any compensation for your mods, a pay-wall is the only option.
I'm grateful that I did receive the base model for free, but you make a very good point about the mod leaking and paid mods stuff. Also, who's Ivan? Maybe it is, I'm not sure to be honest
Did I or did I not say to disregard my bit about the money thing? "Entitled children" You obviously aren't gonna level with me here so whatever.
And I now have that stupid song stuck back into my head again. If there's something that I'd see could cause the community to collapse like a star, it's the entitlement by some users when it comes to mods, and the elitism related to "inferior" types of mods. As was said before, plenty of sims have plenty of payware mods, and it didn't cause any major issues in the community. If anything the situation here shows what has been the biggest pet peeve of mine when it comes to receiving feedback from mods, and that is poor quality reviews. Reviews which slam the mods based on a small detail, on an over-exaggeration of an existing issue, on a user-side issue (when 1/10 guys has texture problems), or because they don't like something that the modder has chosen to do with their mod (remember the backlash against the pre-runner not being AWD?). And that's made all the worst by the fact that most of those people will not try to contact you afterwards to try to understand their issue.
