Hey, would it be possibel to swap an VG30DETT engine in to an basic Skyline (R32, R33, R34)? Or would you do this?
I see no reason why you would take the effort to convert the motor mounts, exhaust, cooling system, HVAC, etc. for a VG30, when an RB25 is perfectly reliable can easily make as much power, and would bolt straight in. yes, it would be possible. but why?
I personally wouldn’t. Downsides: 1) They weigh 130lbs more. 2) No clue how you’d clear it: (RB26DETT shown, VG30 is much wider) 3) They’re more imbalanced 4) They sound worse (subjectively, your mileage may vary) 5) You need to completely re-wire the engine bay 6) Resale value would be poor 7) Less aftermarket support Upsides: 1) Half decent power potential 2) You’d be the only one to have it 3) Parts in the USA would be cheaper, more plentiful, and easier to find 4) Weight distribution would improve (heavier/less long) 5) Lots of space upfront for intercoolers/oil coolers/radiators If you own one and want to do it, go right ahead. My list isn’t the be-all-end-all. Make you own educated choice. If this is all a thought experiment, do your own research. This is only my two cents.

If you're gonna swap a skyline go full heresy for the sole purpose of making people upset: -Chopped up front chassis -GM 4.3 V-6 -Junkyard IHI supercharger -massive cam -5-speed Chevy S-10 transmission -S-10 rear axle
Yeah how about no. picked the 4.3 because you don't need to be a rocket scientist to get power out of the thing, it's literally a 350 with the back two cylinders cut off. Also not an olds diesel because don't they literally explode?
But then it's not heresy if there is any sense in the conversion. --- Post updated --- My take though. Skylines are expensive vehicles, increasingly so at the moment? Why do the swap, I don't care about preserving purity so to speak, but fundamentally there has to be some reason and motivation for performing the swap, you don't do it for the sake of it. RB's are pretty solid motors in a skyline, a lot of support for making more power and fixes for their few reliability issues. The skyline also has a very narrow engine bay that has made swaps notoriously difficult in the past. Now if you had one with just an rb20 and want to make mega power, stick a 25 or 26 in it. If you have one with a blown motor and you have access to something else that makes sense then it might be a sensible conversion. But at face value, little reason to swap a skyline
