There is a plane prop in the Utah map that was added in the Utah remaster, it might hint that an official plane may come sometime: If we're talking like one of those huge airliners, then that would be a no.
...but I wouldn't exactly promise on that plane becoming an playable vehicle anytime soon, as IIRC BeamNG doesn't intend to do anything outside of automobiles in terms of official vehicles. But there is an entire section for Air vehicles (albeit half of them are outdated), so in the meantime you can mess around with those instead: https://www.beamng.com/resources/categories/air.4/
As much as I'd like to see official aircrafts, the devs have explicitly stated that such thing won't ever happen
The dev team literally said they never plan on making official planes you... ffs don't wanna get this post deleted. Just pay attention to posts next time.
BeamNG is a vehicle simulation game, "vehicle" means any machine that transports people or cargo, so aircraft (planes/helicopters/ultralights... etc) and ships are considered to be in this category. An official airplane is not going to happen, but there are airplane mods that are fun to play with.
I am not against it but why do people think the game NEEDS it so much? There's nothing in the game that would benefit from it. The levels aren't made with planes in mind, neither is the draw distance, and all you would do is fly around in 2x2 or 4x4 km area without mod maps. What next, they add a Cessna 172 and then everyone will asks for a helicopter or an F16 and SAMs?
Exactly! There are no runways(except for Utah) and people would be asking for helicopters and other planes to the point where they would have to make the maps bigger to accommodate to the bigger planes and then nobody would use cars. I like your thinking bro
I think the 3 maps with runways are more meant to be to work as quick travel between areas in career mode. Even then i still see no benefit from air vehicles in such a small map.
