Direct Input (used for steering wheels) is not available

    Help! I have this annoying error that basically puts the "Beam" out of BeamNG. I've tried reinstalling. no luck. When I load a map I can't move, no camera, no game. No mods. The link just sends me to a dead page. I've tried following the link in the page, didn't work.

    This definitely is a bug, DX9 is a display software, which has nothing to do with physical input like a steering wheel.

    That's an error that has been appearing to a few users lately, and it's not due any update of the game (since there were none).
    We think it is some Steam update that have messed something in their Controller settings.
    That error you are seeing is outdated, as this is not a common issue to show up at all (in fact it's the first time in years we are seeing this)

    First:
    Have you checked if your controller actually still works despite that error message?
    We would like to know that.
    It's possible that it still work, in that case making the popup not as blocking as it sounds.

    Check your Steam Controller settings.
    Steam > Settings > Controller Settings > Uncheck all the boxes
    Then check again

    Just a minor correction here. DirectX is not a graphics library. It's an ecosystem of multiple libraries, some of which are related to graphics (such as Direct2D, Direct3D, DirectWrite...), some to audio (XAudio), some to input (DirectInput, which is the protagonist of this thread), and several other purposes.

    I do not use controllers. I use keyboards like any normal person would

    I misunderstood it. I once believed that Direct is no lag and no filter, connect the steering wheel controller directly to the vehicle's steering wheel. So Direct Input is the input function via DirectX
