In technical terms, due to its much higher efficiency (90%+) of electric motors there is far less waste heat available compared to ICE (15% - 45 %). Still... even at high efficiency the sheer brute output required to move and accelerate a car at nowadays expected values means that even a relative modest 100 KW engine (136 HP) will create between 3 - 10 KW of waste heat. That is still multiple electric grilles operating inside your car. You have to remove that waste heat although you technically should get away with proper air cooling.... I mean the radiator with your coolant is ultimativly only air cooled and it has to remove hundreds of KW under hard driving conditions.

The thing that makes liqid cooling very entificing for EVs, too is not so much the motors but the batteries. Batteries getting hot or cold is bad for range and bad for longlivety and as such should be avoided. Which is much easier with liquid cooling as you can distribute the heat much better and also can use waste heat of the motor to warm up the battery.

To my knowledge, the battery use range in modern EV as wheel as the motor technology used does not create a natural power reduction anymore, unlike ones electric car toys. The computer simple wont allow you to drive the battery down like this and as such you can in theory use full power output all the way until the computer says no for good.

Of course in practise the computer reduces maximum power output for many EVs when the battery is low because in reality, having less engine power available is better than having none at all. This is however a design question, not a technical one.

I could imagine that the high quality of the mod in question further reaffirms the developers in their decision not to attempt a hybrid for themselves. There would be much work involved in creating something significantly better.

I also think that the great time of the hybrids - as short lived as it was - is coming to an end in real life.

The entire point of a hybrid is to to combine the advantage of an ICE (long range, easy refuelling) with the advantages of an electric motor (efficiency, torque, ride comfort). It was basically always about

"I cannot live without an ICE but I can add an electric motor to make it more efficient".

Hybrids face multiple problems in this decade:

    • Diesel engines hurted their economy, at least in countries where diesel was/is subsidisized.
    • Modern direct injected turbocharged gasoline engines approach their fuel economy numbers. A Focus 1.0 Litre Ecoboost isnt that far away from a Prius... but is is arguably more conventional in terms of fun and handling.
    • Hybrid systems only shine when they are made excellent. Toyotas HSD is renowned for its reliability as Toyota clearly understood that such a system may not prove unreliable or the entire technology never stands a change. With everyone jumping the bandwagon... I would rather not rely on this to be true for other manufacturers.
    • More and more hybrid owners begin to ask the nagging question.... why do I even drive arround this usless gas guzzling ICE in the first place? I already know 3 people who switched from Hybrid to pure EV... saying goodbye to Toyota in the process. Imho Toyotas dislike for EVs is an extremely risky strategy that could cost them dearly. It also to me feels incredible stupid... you already have all those eco caring technology loving buyers.... and then you sit idly there and watch the competition taking them from you for good.

What car is this closest looking to, to you?
It looks like a merge of many cars, and I'm starting to dig the design! ;)

that's anti-lag, not launch control. and no, the engine simulation wasn't designed with that in mind, and, as a result, isn't compatible with a realistic anti-lag logic.

Unsure if its been mentioned previously but, being a modern French car with a floating roof design, its going to need the option for a two-tone coloured roof.

He is feeling pretty good. He's zipping around in the developer's PC and is all fired up and happy to be in the next update. :)

I've been trying to avoid the temptation of an off topic response to that other comment all day. However, as someone with a maritime background, I cannot resist expressing my discomfort at someone refering to a vehicle as a "he". It pains me.
