So I've noticed when running AI while managing vehicle counts in excess of 20.. 25 and beyond especially...
...sometimes the entire game engine seems to give up and even freezing the physics renders less then a singular frame per second..

I'm not sure the root cause here, I mean this is asking a lot from the engine of course. I don't actually use more then 16 cars usually with my average time using AI spent with me and 13 ai vehicles (14 cars total) as this seems to be the magic number for the game or my CPU I can't tell yet.. it's also the point where the number of cars doesn't become more of a burden then a joy. LMAO

But yes.. sometimes when adding more cars after running AI for a while, or changing things and whatnot with more then 20 cars the game engine can just snap. If you can manage to freeze the physics you'll still see the game completely dead with 1-5% GPU & CPU usage and sub-1fps.

More concerning is if you manage to remove cars to one while this is happening even with 1 car the game is still completely broken and must be restarted. It's less of a personal hindrance and more of something I felt I might wanna report.

If this is already stated somewhere I dunno where I'd find it or how I'd even name such a bug so I'm very sorry if I'm repeating echos first sounded elsewhere.

I'm surprised you managed to reach 16 vehicles, my CPU can't handle more than 6 at a time, so I see your point for reporting it, but it is quite excessive for a casual player to do, and I expect the collapse in FPS and reaction from the game is just cause by the simple fact you are completely overloading it, BeamNG vehicles are expensive on all components of your computer, with each vehicle taking up around 25-75% of a core, so unless you are running a threadripper or something extreme, I wouldn't be concerned about it. If you want to have more time in the game without this issue, just decrease the number of vehicles you are running.

I'd be happy with even 8 vehicles at once, double that seems extreme, even as you say you can run fine on 13, your PC must be a monster because even the GPU will tank on most PC's with that many objects at once. And due to the sheer volume of detail in each vehicle, the GPU may try to hand some excessive load to the CPU (and visa-versa) and as a CPU can't draw images anywhere near as quickly as a GPU, this might be what is causing the 1FPS, as the GPU simply can't handle it anymore.

But my advice, stay away from above 12 cars, especially if you actually want to keep your PC alive for extended durations.

I guess you didn't really get why I made this post. I understand the ridiculous nature of what I am doing. I'd reccomend nobody run 20+ cars ever. It's simply a test in how far BeamNG can truly be pushed.

I have a 3950X (16 cores 32 threads) btw.. so that's why 12 or even 16 cars works without question. I just wanted to report a potential issue with the game engine. Not because I practically use 20 cars+.like ever.. I mean that's like 20fps there.

I did briefly comment that I knew what you were pointing out about just basically "pushing the limits" of the Game, but I just wanted to point out that you "were doing this" and if anyone new read the thread and thought, oh ill give that a go, and just mess up their computer, I think it's handy if people like yourself with beefy computers can put forward information like this.

^^' it's unlikely to actually mess up your computer. My computer while this was happening was basically under no load once the game totally broke.

I will recommend if you run a laptop however not to go forth with this. Even if it mostly won't actually do harm.

But what harm will come about here? Furmark (btw use Heavenbench... Don't use Furmark) is more dangerous for modern GPUs then this will ever be.... And Prime95 among other more modern CPU stress tests will push the CPU harder.

Also the game can be fixed by simply shutting the game down and reopening it.. Only in a very unfortunate laptop would you possibly risk overheating. And then it's up to the motherboard to consider a full shut down if warrented. But still isn't actually likely to brick a computer. What do you mean "Mess up a computer"?

I'm simply reporting that as was theoretically possible... The game can potentially provide unusual results when more then 20 cars are present.

On a side note - I've been playing this since 2013 release day on an i5 I'm quite familiar with BeamNG and I've been building computers since 2011..

I found a fix to the issue.
    If this occurs:

Tab to the car you wanna drive among all the cars, this could be difficult with the 1frame for every 2-7 seconds you'll be getting.

If necessary, skip the previous step and move on with any car, you can change it again later.

hit CTRL + E or your preferred binding/method (preferably a key combination due to low FPS when the game does this) and get to the car spawn screen.

At the top of the car spawn screen click on "remove others"

Wait... And once you have one car you'll probably still have the exact same FPS... Simply press CTRL+R (or preferred binding) to fully reload your only car.

If this all goes well.. You should have the game working normally again. Without a game restart.

(side note: I haven't tried simply respawning a single car with all the cars loaded while it's broken... I'm unsure if that'd help though, if I find out differently I'll update

~ also the issue seems to be cause by 20+ cars with AI if you switch between focused cars a lot, the act of AI and switching focus seems to irritate the issue into surfacing)
