My laptop doesn't have any issues but I don't know exactly how long I can keep it that way with all of the things I have installed, so I'm looking for a desktop for better cooling, performance, and overall quality. I would like a pre-built one but if I can take it to someone to get it built then please let me know. Also, make sure it's something I can keep for a few years with minor maintenance. My current laptop isn't old but I can't stand the cooling fans (there's a constant whirr every time I play games) and it gets laggy after prolonged playing. Thank you in advance.
you could get better quality and performance if you build it yourself. get an msi mobo, ryzen 5-7, radeon gfx card etc
Agreed. AMD is the budget performance king. I already had a few parts, so to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 3700X, 32 GB of RAM, Radeon RX 5700 XT, and 850W PSU was less than $1000... and this build is smoothly handling everything I care to throw at it, including gaming in 4K. I'm also quite happy with my MSI MPG X570 motherboard.
$1,000 sweet spot rig is a 2700X/3600, RTX 2060, 16GB of ram, and a mid range ASUS board. I build them all the time at work and that's what I've found to be the best in terms of pure price/performance/reliability ratio. I'm an AMD guy, but for the love of god don't get an AMD card right now if you know nothing about computers. They require constant driver updates in order to keep stability, and anything outside of Sapphire and PowerColor cards are fairly shocking in the longevity department. We have an AMD demo system at work. Went from a Radeon VII to an ASUS 5700 XT Strix because that's what AMD wanted us to do. The 5700 XT was dead within the month. Our service department sees the 5700 non-XT come back fairly regularly. There are several companies around that will build a fully custom system for you. If you live in the US near a MicroCenter, they offer a custom build service. #totally_not_sponsored
It depends. We've seen big issues with the big brands and AMD card quality recently. They just don't put as much care into them. The exclusive board partner cards are WAY more reliable.
The reason I wouldn't buy a Founder's Edition card was because they are not as esthetically appealing. I found a better reason now.
A lot of the board partner cards are reference PCB with a proper cooler on them. The reference card is also fairly reliable so far. We haven't seen them get returned all that often.
I have been using Sapphire AMD cards for a while and they are very reliable as in I have had no failures. I have a Vega 64 from Sapphire that my dad bought around 2 years ago and then used them in his computer after giving me his Vega 56, also from Sapphire. I have been using the Vega 64 since around September of 2019 and had no issues since we bought it. I would recommend Sapphire AMD cards.
The Nvidia part is only because Radeon drivers are terrible. If that were fixed, then it wouldn't be.
