I know how to model a car, I made a hyundai elantra which I am still working on and is near release, but I want to start purchasing models for use, saves time and I honestly don't feel like taking the hours to model a full car anymore, sometimes I much rather purchase a model from a 3D site. I found a good website for purchasing models http://do3d.com/ this is there fair use policy, is there anything in here that would prohibit its use as a mod (non profit) in BeamNG?? agreement: i. Permitted Uses. Distribute the product(s) in any form in which items and accompanying materials/files are accessible by any program, application, or software. Maybe this one, because people will have access to the .dae upon downloading the mod.
It's also comparable to working on my personal model for 47 hours and releasing it as a free mod.. And that's part of the license, it's $40 but no profit can be made out of its use. I'm assuming that would also include a retopo also, my next plan is to look at the wireframe pics of it from the website so I can at least mimick the topology when I create it, makes it that much easier placing the vertices in the right place can be killer on some cars I don't mind spending money on it (possibly saving dozens of hours of work) and release it as free mod but according to the agreement releasing it in any form is prohibited :-/ I will have to continue to make my own models, and some time in the future Im assuming I will get good enough to speed model anyway (4-6 hours) check youtube, some guy did a Lamborghini in 15min! Taking hours or days to make a model is perfectly normal, especially when you are going to model each part of it. If you wish to spend money, go on, but is it really worth it? For what then? Just saving some time modelling something by yourself? Most of people here appreciate self-made work
True and it's the only way to get good and fast anyway, but I think it would be worth it in some instances. Just like a game programmer using a game engine like cryengine or tourqe3D instead of creating it thier own engine from scratch. Especially if you find a model that has free use license such as mine, or Gabes, why not use it? But to agree with you, none of this compares to making your own creation Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't really see a point in this mostly because it's 40 actuall bucks. That's alot for a free mod...
I guess I could see how some people would prefer to buy a model than spend hours making a model themselves, however I don't think you could publicly distribute it. Also some of those cars seem to have a high poly count, but I guess you can always reduce that.
Drowsysam found a way to release it without the .dae file included.. This means that the license won't be infringed which means I can do it now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well if you have permission to use it in that form (double check with them but sounds to me like you should be fine) then nobody here can really complain.
By looking at the terms of use, there's nothing that really specifically states that you cannot EDIT the model at all. You would end up editing the models anyways, in order to implement them into BeamNG. Unless I'm misreading something, you very well COULD buy the model and then edit it for use in BeamNG, therefore making the model your own 'version'. For example: Look at GTA, the developers used vehicles that looked very similar to real cars, but had very minute differences (sometimes just the hood emblem was changed), so as not to spark any conflict with the respective auto makers. The models were clearly identifiable as certain brand name vehicles. A few adjustments, and you technically should be good to go. Again, I may be misreading something, but according to the terms of use, it's not specifically stated ('In any form' - pertaining to the exact original copy). That's why they are selling the models - for end users to "edit" them for their specific uses. It's kind of a grey area, but it is your "specific" use to modify the model(s) for BeamNG.
For all who are wondering here is the car I want to buy. I very well could model this but the time it takes.. I'll give it a week to think about it.
Yup got mines last month, I love it! even non turbo has some zip - - - Updated - - - After thinking about it for a while I decided to make the model myself : ) It'll give me more experience and get me closer to speed modeling, since there aren't any quality blue prints of this car yet I have to model it using these.. Only problem Im thinking about is how do i prove that I actually made it and its not the one from the website?...
Keep a screenshot record of it while being built, thats enough to prove the process matches the end result. - - - Updated - - - this might help. Side view is perfect, front\rear seems a bit off, nevertheless its better then nothing .
