Low FPS that I don't think I should be having.

    Hello everyone,

Earlier this year I got an upgrade for my PC and here are my specs:

    Kingston 8GB RAM (Around £70-80)
AMD Athlon II X4 640 Processor (Around £240-250, apparently...)
    Asus R7 260X OC Graphics (Around £120-130)
    Windows 7 64-Bit (Don't actually know price...)
1TB HDD and 1TB External Memory

I seem to be getting around 20-25 FPS on maps like Small Island and Dry Rock Island on Medium/High settings and this makes me feel that my PC is not reaching its full potential. I have tried adjusting some things but the Asus graphics does not come with a Control Center. I tried installing and opening Catalyst but that gave me a damn BSOD and spent about 7 hours trying to get my PC to work again.

Im not sure whether it might be the processor since I got it back in Late 2012. As you might be able to tell, I have only been playing PC for around a year so I might sound a bit noobish.

Any help in this problem would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

That's a really old CPU. The graphics card isn't great either, but it should run about 30FPS medium no pfx. I'm thinking it's probably the CPU.

To test - ingame, load up gridmap and press Ctrl+F and record your FPS. Then pause physics with J and record the FPS.

If the framerate remains around the same, the graphics card is holding you back. Turn off PostFX and lower graphics.

If the framerate skyrockets, the CPU is bottlenecking. Overclock and/or wait for further optimizational updates for Drive.

it's not "really old", only 3 years. one of the last before the fx series.

The model itself isn't old, but the technology behind it is. It uses 45nm technology, the 4th gen Haswells use 23nm, the last time intel used 45nm technology was with the original Core 2 Duo (from 2007) So I'd say the CPU is 5-6 years old.

Just Auto Detected Quality and went on Grid Map to find my FPS with physics on was at an average of around 37 on mostly high settings. I paused the physics and my FPS went to around 49-53 FPS so thank god for that. I'll just have to wait until further optimization updates (since the game is in Alpha).

Thank you very much for the help!
