Its not based off an irl car, it is a completely fictional car with no irl counterpart. Its based off the idea of a 1960's Japanese car.

have you thought about doing a different front fascia, maybe something along the lines of a 1979 Hilux ?

since its a japanese truck, its NOT a Ute. That is just a Aussie term.

I think you should make two pairs of round taillights and put the under the tailgate.

A ute and a pickup is a different thing. A pickup has a two part desing with the bed and cab separated, also it usually sits on a ladder frame chassis. A ute is a car based, so the bed and cab are one piece, and as far as i know, there werent many utes built on a ladder frame chassis and almost all utes were 2 door. Iam pretty sure this is more of a ute. Utes also were popular mostly in Australia but it is not an Aussie term.

    this looks really nice

I have tried, the line does end right where the door ends so anything I do just looks odd

As an Australian, I feel that I must say this but here we call all cars with a tray a ute, doesn't matter if it is a large pick-up we all just say ute. Only the weirdos here say pick-up
