I can't tell which one I like more. This is the first time in a while that I've been conflicted between XB and PS, but this is really tough for me. I currently have an Xbox One X, which is a good console and is leading in performance compared to the PS4 Pro, and that may even be the case for the original versions of both. That might be the reason I've been glued to XB for so long, but seeing what the PS5 will offer, I might be investing in one. Here are my main points:

    1. New Design
The Series X looks like an elongated One X, so it doesn't look that interesting and could easily be passed off as a regular X if you ask someone who knows nothing/very little about consoles. The PS5, on the other hand, changes the design game for me. It looks nothing like the 4 (in a good way) and makes me want to pick up the controller and play.

    2. Performance
They both seem to offer the same basic stuff, but since there isn't enough info to provide a really good opinion, Imma say they're tied. I do like how they offer PC-like performance for the price of an upgraded console, which is something that is good for me because I don't like having to turn to my PC to get better performance all the time.

    3. Price
Most sources say that both will be around the $400-$500 mark, which as I mentioned before, isn't bad for what you get. They both still support disk games IIRC, so if you like your physical copies, you're in luck (one major speculation prior to the announcements was the ditching of physical copies). I can predict that they'll be more equal in price than the last generation, considering Microsoft learned from putting the original Xbox One at $400, which wasn't seen as worth it.

My final decision is probably PS5, but I encourage doing a deeper read (I skimmed articles) and seeing for yourself what you'd think would be better for consumers. What do you guys think?

I am betting on the PS5 to be the better console, especially if a Gran Turismo 7 comes around. Collecting cars in that game series never gets old. Also, Sony consoles tend to attract a lot of of the best JRPGs and I play those fairly frequently.

Personally I'm one who doesn't really like the PS5's design, it kinda loses the simple design that I loved in previous gen consoles. I actually am looking forward to both though, albeit I'd probably go for the Series X as I usually play XBOX instead of PlayStation, so it'd be a more easier console to follow up purchasing as I'm more used to Microsoft's design and shit like that.

I actually initially had some trouble with putting discs in my PS4 Pro, ejecting them and even finding the power button on the console because of its design. As long as PS5 makes such basic tasks easier I'm fine with it.

Yeah true, but at the same time the PS5 looks like a fucking UFO artifact, not a console. It just doesn't settle with me, especially when all the consoles I've seen in my life weren't over-complicated and did their job. Functionality does factor into design, but it doesn't make much sense to completely ditch the atypical PS "monsoon box" style of recent ages to go into where it looks more like a prop from a futuristic movie rather than an actual console you could go ahead and play.

I do think it is a good idea to take a risk with the design, but to me it just doesn't retain enough of the basic look that I adored since I laid my eyes on a console.

No. Even with the performance upgrades to the new consoles, they still may not be able to run Beamng properly.

I don't think performance is the issue. PCs of lower spec than these can run Beam fine. The real issue is how much development time would be needed to do it. The devs would much rather focus on getting BeamNG to a complete state on PC before even thinking about any ports.

Yup. I believe that if BeamNG ever gets a console port (pretty highly unlikely, unless the devs here pull some sort of fuckery and adapt it) it would run pretty smoothly.
Also, are the new gen consoles set to hit 60fps? And at what resolution?
And what res and FPS did previous consoles (PS4 and One X) run?

The Xbox Series X can run 1080p at above 140 fps. If Beam ever comes to Console, I can easily see it going to Xbox long before PS is even considered. Since Xbox would be the most familiar. Beam would probably run at, at least 30 fps with little to no optimisation. Microsoft is making it a lot easier to port from Windows to Xbox. If it does go to console, it may even just end up being an Xbox exclusive seeing as the time and manpower to port from windows to PlayStation would likely be too much to even consider.

The main problem with porting to console and the one I believe is the reason why there is no console port would be the modifications and optimisation of the physics engine and libraries.
Which is also why I believe that a console port would likely be co-developed / ported by a Port Developer such as Blitzworks, since they specialise in the porting of games they have a lot of experience with all the problems that come with porting software to a platform that it wasn't designed / programmed for. And while they would prefer to not have to rebuild an entire game, they also love a good challenge. Blitzworks isn't the only Port Dev out there but they are one of the most notable and recognised ones.

All Beam would need to do is to give a Porter like Blitzworks the tools they need (i.e Source code, libraries, the game engine, etc, etc.)

Now THAT is a beautiful console.
I'm afraid that ventilation might be the PS5's weakpoint.

Knowing both consoles are extremely slim PCs (in the case where the XSX is literally a NZXT H1), it could run pretty well, if they adapt it well.

My computer is more powerful than both combine and I don't have to pay a internet company and a too big to fail company just to play online. But those are my thoughts for the new gen and current gen.

This here, this is why I prefer PCs over consoles, also adding the fact you can do 206206293056203567 other things in a PC

Actually... 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 (9 quintillion 223 quadrillion 372 trillion 36 billion 854 million 775 thousand 807) things. At least if you're counting in 64-bit signed int.
