So you've asked for commentary, so I'll provide 1. How should I release the public beta (0.x) version of the map? Just map. And no, not because I'm impatient or something, but mostly because I believe it's better to release such big projects in stages. Every choice in that poll is basically a whole stage, which you can built on top of previous one. Also it gives people from forums ability to test those things also in stages. Basically, you make a map, release it, people report all the map bugs, you can iron them out an release update. Then you add traffic support, get the reports from players, fix all the bugs, release the small update. And so on. 2. How would you like to stay up to date with the map? I don't have a preference here, although I'm not a fan of the external program thing. Back in ~2013 or something, when I was active in GTA SA modding scene, there were a few mods which were using built-in updaters. Now that the modders abbandoned those mods there's no way to download the latest release of their mods, because the servers are down. So I prefer having archieves with updates being posted here, so at anytime, even many years later, everyone could just re-download them and enjoy the mod. Be it full 3Gb archive or many small ones. 3. Since Stunt Run isn't well suited for BeamNG, would you rather... I don't have strong opinion on this. On the other hand, the more content - the better, right? Anyway, I'd include it as separate stage (see above) ---------------- Also, a bit off-topic, but I just recently realized I know you from Kuru's streams, haha
About the first poll... Just the map. It could be updated to bring new features and more refined stuff. I'm a little bit impatient to be honest. The second poll, it could be downloading the gigantic file again, or, what I would see people with horrid Wi-Fi connections liking, small files. It can compensate for abysmal download speeds (i.e my internet, that can only reach about 200kb/s in a good day). The third poll.... The more content, the better Also, how would it compare to other maps in term of performance? I play on an absolute shitbox, so I want to know some sort of estimation or comparison to other maps (whether it runs like WCUSA, or Italy, or etc.) Will it need more than 4gb of RAM?
I really appreciate this feedback! I can't say much right now, but I'd say at least 8GB to be sufficient, 16 recommended. BeamNG acts really weird, especially on the full map. Usage would go up to (depending on available RAM) during loading then go down to like 3GB usage after loading. Once again though, no definite answer, as this could vary between graphic settings and such.
Well I have a 1660 Ti, a Ryzen 5 1600, and 16 GB RAM. I can max my graphics settings for all vanilla maps, even Italy. Even dynamic reflections. Though I keep dynamic reflections at a lower fidelity just in case, since they are performance-heavy at times.
I think it might run, knowing that my old silicon clusterfuck can load most maps. I look forward to the release.
As you can see from my specs in my signature my CPU is kind of a bottleneck of my GPU. It's even worse when paired with this laptops slow ass 2666 Mhz ram. this will probably run fine but I'm starting to have mu doubts.
When using an Intel cpu 2666 MHz is perfectly fine, you'll only get performance benefits on newer and chips
2666 mhz is slow as shit and whenever something gets offloaded into ram in a big program, like loading / rendering a blender file with a ton of textures, its a ton faster with faster ram.
Well I render and do lots of blender stuff. The ram is super slow and loading textures take up to 15 minutes longer.
A tester had success loading in with 8gb of RAM. 4GB is most likely not going to be enough, but I will consider making a lower quality version of the map. Hell yeah it's gonna run man. I'm running slower RAM, but SSD saves lives, super quick loading times.
Even on my hard drive beamng loads in 10 seconds on almost every map. I cant imagine what its like on an SSD
Its a 7200 RPM drive. It just has very sexy read / write speeds. (and yes its on my boot drive and dont @ me)
I remember seeing a mod a while back that gives points for drifting, would it be possible to make stunt run events that work off of drift points and survivable jumps?
I do like the drifting mod, but I don't think it's worth implementing. I highly doubt you can accurately detect if a vehicle is in the air, but only time will tell.
Uhh, WHY HAVE I NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS MOD’S EXISTENCE? how did I go three years without knowing this mod existed? yeah I don’t care if the enthusiasm has died down now, I just found out this existed while looking for Paradise remastered mods.
