Windows 8 and running the pre-race update...

So, I downloaded the update just fine, then when it was at 100% and said "seeding" or something I made the (apparently massive) mistake of hitting "Done". So I opened BNG, it wasn't done, as the new map was no where to be seen, I opened the application to update, ran it, it gave me an error.

BeamNG update requires a connection to the internet.
Please insure that you can access the internet and no firewall or antivirus is blocking it. (I was steam-chatting a friend, internet was fine, tried it with my firewall stuff on and off, made no difference, same error)
Afterwards, please restart this application. (I've done that atleast 10 times, even playing with the compatibility trouble shooting, no success, same error)
Windows error message: This network connection does not exist.

I am running Windows 8, and the only thing I have been able to think was the problem is that Windows 8 is fighting itself.
Please help me figure this out forums.

 

from what i understand, the new map wasn't released with the pre-race. I believe it will be released in the race update.

 

There is no new map in this update. They are WORKING on the East Coast map for a future update.

 

May i suggest the new updater, if not i dunno , mine worked just fine, once you do get it to work, it's totally worth it.

 

out of curiosity, did you remove the updater from the zip file?

 

Yes pulley, I tried it in the zip file, out of the zip file, and tried running it as administrator, same error. Also I checked to see if it was done, and I don't see the pidgeon, so blame Windows 8. Still cant find out how to get it to work. Also I re-installed the updatey thing in hopes that that would fix it, but no, it doesn't. Also I downloaded the new updater, and Windows gives the same error message when I try to run that aswell.

There was an issue for me where the updater would think that the old update (from September) was correct, and not update. Try dragging the root with all the files in it somewhere else, and run it again in a different folder separate from the files..

 

That sounds good and all, except I have no idea what a root is :/

 

The main folder with all of the stuff for X program in it. In this case, the folder with the .exes and all the folders for vehicles, art and lua. Take that folder with all that stuff in it and move it somewhere else. (Just chuck it on your desktop for now.) Make sure the new updater is separate from that folder (IE not in it or in the same folder as the root folder) and try running the updater again.

The error you are getting is an error in the old updater and not the game itself which suggests to me you have tried to use the updater to patch an original copy of the game, it cannot do that, it can only patch copies installed with the new updater. Check in the folder you already ran the updater in (no doubt inside your old BeamNG install anyway which is the wrong location for this new updater) for a folder called "alpha_prerace", this is the folder the updater now installs into and should have the real game in it, I think you were accidently running your old unpatched version of the game and having the usual firewall/antivirus issues blocking the old updater.

 

Just redownloaded, I assume the download comes with the new updater, still don't see the "alpha_prerace" and same error message. :/

Well, it installs just fine, but when it opens the updater window it's the same shitty error, and when i click finish it doesn't finish...
