    It won't.

First two degrees were right in the field I'm currently working in (Master Degree in IT Engineering and Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science), third one is going to be something completely different, just to keep my brain in good shape... :)

Yikes? I just was out looking at them for my first car, literally almost bought one. Now i'm second guessing it. Reviews seem good, if you don't mind me asking, how was the car up until then?

I should say i'm looking at base models, insurance won't let me have a turbo lol. My first car so,

Problem is, I bought it used fr
I would regard the base model as a completely different car WRT engine, suspension, performance, etc. so I'm not sure how much my experience would apply to you. I know it was very, very quick but not especially dramatic about it - it doesn't shove your forward like some older heavy turbos like the Mazdaspeed 6, but it completely trivializes passing slowpokes and exploiting gaps in traffic - non-turbo has about 140 horsepower which would give it a perfectly adequate P/W ratio but won't necessarily be the king of the drag strip. Cornering performance is grippy but not especially confidence-inspiring due to a poorly-set-up torsion beam rear suspension which pogos and slithers horribly over bumps; this may be specific to US-market Turbos (apparently one of the Australian sports models had the best damping). You can definitely tell that the power steering is electric rather than hydraulic.

Ooo thanks, the base a drove felt quick but still normal, no sports car but not a sedan, the short wheel base was odd to me because all the cars I had driven until then were long 4 door/muscle cars. I am going to test drive a turbo soon just for the hell of it, however the base is most likely the one i'm going for. It seems fun, quick and zippy, but nothing i'm going to launch into a tree.

How was reliability? Any big issues? Other than the one obviously present lol, not sure how long you drove it so not sure if you had a lot of time to see things break. I genuenly like the car, has a good aftermarket community, unfortunately my house AC died (in the middle of NC summer) and so I have to push back buying one.

I've heard the 2013 Turbos in particular can have some manner of problem, probably this one. CD player seems finnicky, but I do have some pretty old scratched up discs. I didn't really have time for anything else to go wrong.

I put 3 quarts of oil back in it, seemed to have some still left in the pan but not much. Dipstick got obviously burned. After re-oiling I heard the nasty sound a little on startup, then a little bit when I slightly revved it; after letting it idle for a couple minutes I no longer heard the loud tapping in revs up to 1500 RPM but I *really* did not like the sound or feel when letting off the gas afterward. A much quieter ticking/clacking sound is still audible, including at idle.

Were there metal shards in the oil you drained?

Didn't drain anything because I didn't think there was anything left in it. Checking after refill, the little bit of old oil that was actually left in there was black as heck but didn't show any obvious metal bits.

So, further research on the Veloster. A local "super junkyard" that resells undamaged parts out of wrecked cars quoted me $3400 for a 41K mile used engine, and that's without the turbo ($800 for a known-good used turbo if I turn out to need it). Stealership doesn't even do rebuilds; they would want $6K-8K for a new engine (my total available cash is a hair under $6K right now) and if they went used they'd probably end up going through the same super junkyard. The one local shop I've found that actually rebuilds engines hasn't been able to get me quote yet due to technical difficulties, and has a lead time of about a month on rebuilds.

DOES NO ONE IN THIS STATE FIX FRICKIN' ENGINES?

Maybe I should have learned to work on engines after all. Up here I'd probably have a market all to myself.

Doing actual engine work is a rarity nowadays. Most of the time "mechanics" just swap the whole engine. I would probably get the junkyard engine to get me around while I fix the one that came with the car. Or you could check aftermarket catalouges for performance engines, but that might not work in your situation because those engines aren't the most popular.

I could get a 2.0L turbo crate engine - genuine Hyundai product - for the amount of money one local shop wants to order and install a 40K mile stock engine.

I have a neighbor who apparently does engine rebuilds for himself and he seems to be under the belief that it's not difficult or expensive if you do all the work yourself to the book. Already said at one point that he'd help me fix up the Sunbird. I may have to enlist his help.

I replaced the head gaskets on the Regal. It isn't hard to do engine work if you have the service manuals, a torque wrench, all the parts (don't forget to replace stretch bolts), and a lot of space to organize everything. I would definitely utilize the assitence of that neighbor since you haven't done heavy engine work before. I wish you luck with your project.

Mozilla Firefox is the modern incarnation of Netscape Navigator, and Internet Explorer died with Windows 10. Netscape may be long gone but their legacy outlived IE. That is a victory for the internet as a whole.
