Have the developers ever thought of doubling or just increasing the overall map size of their official maps? I mean, Italy's a big map and I like that. I'd love to see the other maps get doubled in size.

Also, have the devs ever thought of making an extra big map? Like, an open world map?

Like for example, FH4's map is... what... 52 square miles, right? What if the BeamNG.drive team made an official map that was about that size, lovingly handcrafted and everything?

As much as I'd love to see the maps get extended/combined, I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon if at all. I could maybe understand all of the U.S. maps getting spliced together, and all of the European maps, so on so forth, in a very distant update, but I doubt that's anywhere near the top of their list. I would love to see something like that come with the full campaign, that way the game wouldn't be so divided in gameplay when switching from scene to scene.

really it all comes down to precision point accuracy or whatever, you know when you load in a huge map and every thing is violently shaking, the further you go from the center of the map the more every thing shakes. However it isn't all that noticeable on the 16km size so an American or Australian themed map of Italy proportions would be absolutely awesome. It would also take an incredible amount of time for it to be done, after all Italy took nearly three years to make. But another large map I think would be necessary in future because I feel that ECUSA is far too cramped and the roads are hardly the kind to just lazily cruise on because there are so many corners and uneven, non smooth roads, so much so that it almost feels that the map was designed for European sports cars, not your classic American fullsize which if im not mistaken 90% of American roads are made for. Not to mention that its gotten boring real quick and rather tiresome going around the same highway loop with constantly changing speed limits that are still too fast for comfortable driving

Italy is very nice and a fair few of us really love those European roads because they drive euro sports cars, because thats what you drive in Italy, small little cars. I myself load it up sometimes to fling around the Pickle on the mountains but you don't that in a Bluebuck. The problem with ECUSA it still feels like im driving in Italy, not America, although Italy is much, much bigger than ECA it was deliberately made to have smaller roads and corners, whilst in ECA the map is far too small to actually have American roads, if however it was on same 16km squared layout as Italy then you could really pack some nice highway, a good sized town (because a city would kill potatoes), lots of fields, some light forests with hidden buildings, long sweeping corners on roads (of course still have the technical ones but just not many) and heaps of little easter eggs around the place. It would just work so well for career mode and just going for a drive for longer than the average 5 minutes. I just don't enjoy driving on European roads is all, I get an American car, load up an American map, but I still drive in Europe ? How's that make sense ?

The reason FH4 can have such a large map with stunning graphics is that it doesn’t have to run a physics engine at 2000 FPS for each part of the car, which takes up a lot of resources.

BeamNG focuses resources onto the physics and crashes, which is why the maps aren’t super big and the graphics are ehhhh. If the physics engine didn’t improve from this point on BeamNG could focus more on bigger maps and better graphics in the future, but at the end of the day it is a physics game.

    Would be cool tho

Yes but whats the point of a physics game running at 2000hz if you cant enjoy it to its fullest extend, with the exception of spectacular crashes and racing

    Edit:
Also I don't really care much for graphics because it looks absolutely stellar even on the lowest settings, beside why have a nice, shiny looking everything when the main focus is on the physics, plus good graphics=bad fps, the faster the game runs the better right?

I wouldn’t say it looks stellar it still looks like a game from 2013 in 2020.

It’s not the focus though so it doesn’t really matter

Graphics are more like from 2010 or 2011 than 2013

honestly thats true they kinda suck no offense to devs bc obvious thats not the focus which is fine its not Crysis

it really just needs better textures and a new graphics engine and it would be perfect

Well please, do remember that this is all based around physics, not graphics, so it really can take a back seat on the express train to finished state station, beside we just got some massive updates to the rendering only a few months ago so its not like the devs are completely overlooking the fact that the game is not the most visually appealing but something has already been done about it and so another overhaul can wait a few years. Plus one more graphics update and my potato would toast itself, not that the last one didn't hurt, that reminds me, a lot of people who play this don't have super or even just normal gaming pc's so one more update could just kill off half the playerbase. The warranty nightmare would be bigger than that of the '57 Chryslers

Ive said that multiple times and its true.

they can just have a toggle between legacy graphics and actually good ones. Make the new graphics for like 2070s and stuff and everyone who cant run that can run legacy.

Well to be fair we've already got maps like American Roads and Los Injuris, but those use generic assets, decal roads, etc.

Yeah I know, I hate that issue with game engines. There's gotta be some way to fix that. Maybe it could be like KSP where whichever car you're controlling is the "center"? Or was it with every celestial body? I don't remember.

Really? I mean... I used to have a potato PC myself. But I don't remember it running worse. I used to be able to do medium settings with dynamic reflections off, but by the time I finally upgraded my PC, before I upgraded I was already able to max everything but keep dynamic reflection sliders all the way to the minimum. If anything, the game ran better and better every update.

True but their textures are nothing like the smaller but higher quality base game maps

Really ? lucky you, ever since the 0.18 with the massive lighting overhaul I could swear that if lost about 10fps, because previously I could run medium textures with low shader and every thing else turned to lowest at a steady 60, now though that's sitting at ~48 fps. That's another thing for some reason I cant run the game without vsync on, without it I can only get 30 fps on gridmap and non existent on other maps, but with it on I get 60 on lowest on all maps (except for the forested areas in ECU and most of WCUSA), this started about 0.14-15. Can any one figure that out ? it dosent really affect me because I limit fps to 50 but it would still be nice gauge how much a particular setting eats the most fps

    Well I don't know, I had a PC upgrade pre-0.18 so I can't say for sure. What's your specs?

AMD Ryzen 5 2500U and integrated Vega 8 mobile graphics with 16 gig of ram in a little HP envy laptop and that's all it tell me, yeah I know hardly any good for even youtube but it does the job and well enough, for now. In future i'll be building my own tower

    Now I have a 1660 Ti and a Ryzen 5 1600
