I don't know if you have tried this, but there's a traffic mod available. I don't know if it still works or not, but I know it is pretty much the same system that is in the game now.

it's exactly the same as the one in the game, don't bother downloading this, as it will probably break the one built into the game.

Using an older version of the game surely will make you feel bored quickly. You're missing a TON of features, not only traffic. The new 3D sounds, the separated engine and exhaust sounds, the graphics improvements, new cars, mod compatibility, etc. You can tune your car the way you want, and if something isn't there (say a turbo, off-road suspension or even a enviorment unfrendly diesel) you will probably find it in the mods section.
It's also good to mod the game yourself! Opening the engine.json of your car you can change how much torque and speed you want to have, and even mix sounds from other cars (the V16 sounds really sexy in the D-Series. Kinda like a beefier V8)
Posibilities are endless with BeamNG, and I'm planning to build a new rig just for this game. I suggest you to buy an used rig. Something like a Skylake Core i5 and a Nvidia GTX970. The game will run fantastic with those specs and those components are quite cheap right now, considering they're 4 years old.

 

I only recommended that because he said he had to downgrade to an older version of the game... one without the traffic system actually in the game.

 

Cars mods focusing and crashing videos in BeamNG is cycled boredom.

Coz a 2 gig card is definitely more than enough to give you 30fps on low or medium..
