Like in Gran Turismo and stuff. License plates for each car that include either the make, model, or both for that specific car. So like the Ibishu 200BX could get a black plate with white logos, and it says "Ibishu", "200BX", or "Ibishu 200BX". I don't know. Could make showcase images/videos more classy.
How'd you make those? I'm trying to find out how to make Wisconsin Temp plates, and they're just printed off, so no texture is perfect.
No texture? Or do you mean no licence text / no letters? I made a set of symbols that were completely blank with a flat normal map, and then set the text size to 0 as well so no letters show up at all.
Yeah, I meant letter texture. Sorry, I should've been a bit clear on that, lol I'd like to have letters on it, though, just not with the relief. I'm working on the base texture, I'm just wondering how to get it all into Beam.
It would just be a case of removing the normal map for the letters, making one that is entirely flat will also solve this. As for the custom lettering, looking at how the official plates are done is good for reference. Mine don't use lettering, they're just textures, but changing the font for your plates should be fairly easy.
When I finish them, I will release them. But the "when" could be anyone's guess. I'd like to say that I can knock them out fairly quickly, but re-creating all of the logos is taking a while and I have a few other things I'm working on as well. I will get them done though, hopefully sooner rather than later, just keep a look out on the repo.
I read the title but its not descriptive enough. Can you give me a 500 word min rundown on what that mod does?
This is a mod for the video game BeamNG.drive, which first entered alpha in 2013 and is still being developed today. The mod, which can be downloaded from the BeamNG website's Mods tab once it is approved by the site's moderators, has to do with the game's license plate skin system. The system works by applying different selectable textures to a license plate model, allowing for players to make their own custom textures (or "skins"). The system also allows for lettering customization, letting you choose the font, color, size, and character limit. When new vehicles are created, their manufacturers typically take photographs of said vehicles in order to use them in advertisements. The vehicles can't have actual license plates, as not only are they unregistered, license plate designs are exclusive to each state in the United States of America and choosing one design could potentially alienate customers in 49 other states. In the late 1950s, a solution was devised. A piece of metal or plastic would be cut into the shape of a license plate, but instead of a license plate number, either the manufacturer's logo or the name of the vehicle (or both) would be printed on it. This filled the empty space where a license plate would go and had the added benefit of making the vehicle look fancier. This practice continued for several decades and is still rather commonly used today. This mod serves to emulate those plates. They have been customized so no lettering can be displayed on them, to prevent obscuring the logos. The logos themselves have been taken from the game files. BeamNG.drive used to have a feature called the "Garage," which would allow the player to customize their vehicle using a more video game-style user interface in a vehicle garage environment, and then set that vehicle as the default configuration when loading into a map. When choosing a vehicle in the Garage interface, the vehicle's logo would be displayed in the top corner. Unfortunately, three logos were unobtainable and had to be sourced by taking screen captures of official vehicle trailers uploaded to the official BeamNG channel on YouTube. First, every Gavril vehicle would display the modern logo used from 1985 to 2006, even older vehicles made in the 1960s despite having different badging. The Autobello Piccolina, strangely, had no logo in its folder, despite being added to the game before the Garage feature was removed in the 0.19 update. Also in that update, a new brand, Cherrier, was added, and it didn't have a logo either for obvious reasons. As such, these logos may be shaded slightly differently. I hope that doesn't bother you. This mod was submitted to the official mod repository on August 8, 2020. Since the team in charge of reviewing and approving mods is extremely small, it typically takes several days for a new mod to be reviewed and approved. As such, you will have to wait a few days for the mod to be available for download.
