Cockpit audio muffling disables when a window is broken/missing, or a door is open.

    they're working on ray traced audio which should be a million times better

    ...ray... traced... audio?
    That's a thing? How the hell? So if ray-traced lighting is about how light refracts and bounces off of things, is ray-traced audio going to be the same way?

    sound rays will bounce off models, yes

    Yes, this is a "biggie" for me to get fixed. It's the same issue for open topped vehicles, it still sounds like you're in a closed cabin.
