Wasn't there issues with people that used RTX cards? Like... they didn't last very long or something?
the early batches of some RTX cards, mostly the 2080 ti's, would just die. a lot of people are gonna be upgrading from their 10 series cards to the new 3070. I'm actually one of those people, (just getting a 3080 instead). the 20 series wasn't really worth it. With this in mind, beamng has gotta step up the graphics. Look at a game like Forza Horizon 4, that's the standard people have for graphics in car games now. I know beamng focuses on physics, but graphics are the thing you see, and they need to be good. beamng has got to do a lot of innovating.
I think we need to take into consideration that you posted a photo thing, not gameplay. DOF plays a big role there and Beamngs DOF could use some updating, adding bokeh for example. But i urge you to take a look at youtube hameplay of WRC9, PC3, ETS and so on an all of a sudden Beamngs gfx is up there cause they look worse IMO (with my mod though so kinda bipartisan). EDIT: Forgot this, im quite certain FH4 uses higher everything when using Photo Mode, try to look at some gameplay and youll see that you wont get the same result.
Does it really though? At this point in time there isn't really any competition. Wreckfest was sort of competing in the early days but that has since been completed and stemmed off into a different genre. The only way to get a vehicle physics simulation this realistic is BeamNG, and that doesn't look like that's gonna change any time soon.
don't forget that the devs will always prefer good performances and optimisation than good graphics, that's why they are using a reworked version of torque3d as graphic engine instead of a newer and more powerfull engine (like cryengine3 in the very very very early development of the game). Torque3d has the advantage to use very little ressources from the CPU to work (only one core IIRC but im far from being an expert of how graphic engines works). So yeah, it would be cool to have beamng with the same graphics as Forza horizon 4, but im more attached to my constant 60FPS on (almost) every map with my low end GPU.
The only way to get reflections like that is with ray traced reflections. I think the only car game right now that has ray traced reflections is assetto corsa competizione.
I mean graphical innovation, so you can have stunning graphics and incredible physics simulation at the same time.
The game is already very graphically intensive, the devs would need to find a way to do it without requiring a NASA computer.
= They also should have the minimum requirements be higher, like a 1080 and a high end i7 or something. then youll get better graphics because you arent catering to like intel 630
I'm not ignorant, because I am at least aware that BeamNG isn't a big studio like rockstar games and you also cannot just create a whole new graphics engine. I have also never said that graphics should not be focused on, I said it's probably not their main focus. What is good physics without good graphics? I don't know, don't care as much as you obviously do and that's your opinion to have. I still think Live For Speed is good because the handling is on point even for todays standard. When and how does a point of view even become outdated, and who are you to be the judge of that? A part from that, I still think BeamNG is looking great for a 7 year old game.
I sort of agree with you. Graphics need to be bearable and physics impeccable I also care a lot about engine sound quality. Good sound and physics go a long long way and I personally find the graphics more then acceptable. I would rather invest in better sound then in better graphics atm.
YES YES YES! So much yes in this post. This game's engine sounds are good, but it could use more variation and volume. For example, why does a Japanese i4 from the 1980's sound the same as a 2013 turbocharged German car? Why does a carbureted 1970's muscle car V8 sound the same as a fuel injected SUV from the 90's-00's?
Definitely more variation, the volume we (the modders) can take care of ourselves. But thrust me, TDK is working on it ! He's doing all the best he can and stuff on sounds is going to happen soon, I'm sure ! Back on the topic of graphics : It's clear that the devs are putting a lot effort in being the game to be run by low end pc users as much as possible, yet pushing the physics to their utmost limits. I find that remarkable
I kinda fear a graphics update, idk if my gtx 1060 will be able to hold on if that happens, and if it does i wouldn't be able to play with multiple cars liking it or not beamng is a pretty demanding game, a graphics update would ruin gameplay for a lot of people
