Hi beam-ers! ( or beamng-ers, idk the proper terminology, im new) So, did you ever made a cool car in automation and exported it, eager too try it out, but after a little while you feel like the car needs a bit more power, or a lot more power, or less power, or different gear ratios, or better brakes, but you don't feel like waiting for automation to load your 200+ mods again so that you can save a new version of the car? With this 11kb Now 13kb mod - you can tweak a whole lot more on your automation cars. This is a couple of hours of alt-tab-ing between beam & notepad, and its a WIP in every aspect. I made it for fun, and i don't think i'll get it much further - besides, i see that other people are planning bigger such mods than this - so take it lightly - it may crash. That being said - please test this thing out! Let me know what you think of the idea. What it does: - adds a customisable engine - with some sound options (didnt get to figure out how to tweak the pitch and stuff) - the custom engines can be turbocharged and now supercharged (thanks to this mod) - adds FWD, RWD and AWD customisable manual and DCT gearboxes (i cant figure out how to make 4x4 work proper, esc options and diff types to come later) - adds race brakes with adjustable torque and cooling numbers - "has" some optional suspension parts for double wishbone - but they freak things out - might be funny - but i couldnt get ride height to work, yet I dont think i can make custom wheels for all/any cars, as the wheels jbeam(s) contain the phisical model too. There may be a way to make a super-customisable wheel&suspension setup, where you have to manually adjust the wheelbase, trackwidth, tire sizes and so on... but that seems like a pain to develop. Maybe later. Feel free to suggest stuff, tell me your ideas, tell funny jokes, inspire a new world... whatever people do on the internet nowadays.
This looks pretty freaking cool. I'll be sure to try it out and give feedback soon! Edit: I also can't find the download link! lol ninja'd
This is really cool I got so sucked into it I forgot to provide feedback. Love the transmission options so far have yet to delve into everything properly, still I don't feel it to change much except to improve upon Some things you can expand in order of importance: Automation exports very terrible car colours, I would be a godsend to change this, so many mods I've seen the author don't know how to change it to be better, very frustrating! see if you can change them the materials at least for just these main body parts like exhausts, body(multiple), chassis, rims(3), windows and chrome slider. Bonus points for brakepads. How to adjust the exhaust note in volume, pitch, intensity, loop, sample rate, rpm slider, smoothing Wheel spacing
I'm glad you're enjoying it! I will look for more engine sounds to add to this - if anyone knows the sample names for i5's, v10s and stuff - let me know. Regarding car colors & materials - i dont know how/if i can make a "paint design" option like beam cars. that's the only way i can think of making custom car paint work on all/any automation car. There is a way to tweak car paint looks - and that's changing the "camso_col_0xff383838.dds" (as far as i can tell every car exported from automation has that exact texture name for specular map) - but all it does is change the specular intensity. Any other changes to materials have to be made for each individual vehicle. As far as i know, correct me if im wrong. I tried to add the option of wheel spacing on the suspension - but as i mentioned in the main post - custom suspension needs to be super tweakable - when u can now make buses and trucks in automation, or golf carts - so that's gonna take me a while to make that "universal"- if i get the time. More sound options are on my to-do list.
Actually, since we are doing this in game, where you can see the car color change in realtime, you can just have 3 rgb slider, one slider for red, one for blue, one for green, and take it from materials.cs as seen in the info.json there are 3 values for color, I don't know what the 4th one does but it's always 1.4: "default_color": "Default", "colors": { "Default": "1.000000 0.929412 0.800000 1.400000", "Black": "0.010000 0.010000 0.010000 1.400000", "White": "1.000000 1.000000 1.000000 1.400000", "Red": "0.700000 0.100000 0.100000 1.400000", "Blue": "0.100000 0.200000 0.400000 1.400000", and in the materials.cs you have specularPower[0] = "10"; specularStrength[0] = "0.02"; Unless that's incorrect just make those sliders for the main slots in the file too? But I get if that's not the direction your mod is meant to be. Really cool work on all this and glad to have it in my tool arsenal! let me know if you need anything, I could try to work it out with my limited knowledge
first of all i've been wanting someone to make this mod for all my life without even knowing, thanks a lot for the great work. i have some suggestions like esc mode like sport or drift, the ability to control the amount of power to the rear wheels in awd and custom diffs. and i have to report a bug parking brake is not working for me
You're right, snap, didn't even notice. I'll look into it, it's from the custom rear brakes... i think ) Took a look I'll make that a variable i'm looking into sport esc and beam-related settings, but free time's getting a luxury, so it might take some time - awd torque split is in the works tho --- Post updated --- Those are the default colors for any automation car, RGB, the 4th's alpha - in beam i think it represents the reflection slider - those are the settings u can control in the game's color tab. Specular power/strength controls the material's shading. But i dont know how to make it universal, for any automation car. Also, power and strength seem to do the same ) - where's the control for the shading's "specular" or "roughness" coefficient? ) I feel ur pain, every time i export a car, and it turns out brown or something in beam.... it's sad ) but it would be so inconvenient to edit the materials.cs in every (zip os ur) car u make in automation.

If there's a demand, we can try to make --- Post updated --- Small update adding the AWD tourqe split and 2 more v8 sounds - turns out i was using a weird v8 engine sound in the v1, also added the default v10, still cant figure how to change pitch and other sound options. Keep making cars!
Awesome yes I am really looking forward to any updates incoming, this is tremendous work! I hope way more people discover this!
Bump. I still think this is one of if not the greatest mod for automation users, by a long shot. Easy to use and VERY customizable and fun, amazing integration into the game! So seamless. Perfect design, executoin. 5/5 stars!! Any news on a final update or where I could grab your latest release? Hope to hear from you soon Stay safe, hope alls good on your end!
