Continuing the theme of wedge-shaped Japanese cars: An early 300ZX. The headlight cluster is what makes it cool for me. I'm also hyped for the upcoming Z-car. The tease pictures look promising

While I wouldn't call the new face of BMW the prettiest, I definitely think it gets unnecessary disdain. Just as people hated the Bangle era, no one is ever happy. The new M3 and M4 are pretty sweet packages with the glorious S58 under the hood powering the rear or all four wheels. I think they're exciting to look at, and brings something fresh to the table. It's an awesome adaptation of the classic BMW vertical grille design in my humble opinion. And just take in that gorgeous Isle of Man green... Sao Paulo Yellow (M4) isn't bad either!
You've made my point though, in 5-10 years when design changes again, people will moan about it and say the typical "straying far from their roots." The same is going on with the Z Proto even though it is a very good retro design. Just a matter of opinion though.
That is a shame! I am hoping it isn't priced like the Supra is (more than likely will be though...). Depending on it's production specs and design, price etc, I want to try and convince my partner for us to have one.
I think it's an interesting modern take on classic BMW design. They had big grilles back then for functionality, and while cars today don't require air cooling like that, it doesn't mean designs can't be interesting and use those old elements for more design possibilities. I will say I don't like what they have done with the M4/4 Series Coupe. The Hofmeister Kink should have been kept like it is on the 3 Series.
I really like the new look of the IS, it's just a shame they haven't changed the inside or given it new engines... all show, no go...
see, the tall grilles fit the older cars like the 502/503 etc because they have a tall bonnet line shoehorning tall grilles onto a low-slung saloon just doesn't look right, especially when the grilles are that tall that it requires the bonnet to be made taller in spots to accomodate them.
