I want to make gearboxes for the electric cars in Beam because no shifting is no fun in my opinion. How can I do that?
That's not what I was going for. I want a full electric car with a gearbox, so no fake electric motors from gasoline engines --- Post updated --- eSBR or Cherrier FCV electric
It is totally doable... thats basically how I have the Electric Conversion set up for the B1 at the moment. I just snitched a good chunk of the code from the rear motor of the eSRB and then attached that to the input of the transmission instead of using an engine. Pretty easy really. Now taking a fully electric car and adding a transmission to it... well that might be a bit more difficult... but should still be totally doable. I think most of the electric cars in the game use multiple motors... so you would have to use a gearbox in between each motor and each wheel(s) it powers... then there is the fact that I have no idea how that will control either.
I just want to know how to make a gearbox for electric cars because I don't like single speed transmissions or CVTs
I would say the simplest way to achieve this is to take an existing ICE car and replace the engine with an electric motor, keeping the transmission intact. You can borrow electric motor code from an EV and use that in place of an ICE engine.
I know some retro/resto mods have kept the original gearbox while switching to an electric engine. It's mostly pointless as electric motors make so much torque from 0rpm and have a high maximum RPM, but that doesn't mean it can't be done...
I want to know how to do it but I don't know what code to take from what car and add on to another car (For example, the SBR4 transmissions in the eSBR) --- Post updated --- And how would I make those an addon/mod instead of changing the files directly
To make this work properly, you'll need to create at least a new shiftLogic lua file, existing logics with transmission support assume combustion engines and won't work correctly with electric motors.
Hmm... How can I make one of those, and make sure that the gearboxes don't overwrite original files? --- Post updated --- I already have an empty zip made for the base of my mod called eSBR Conventional Transmissions. I'll make one for the Cherrier FCV too --- Post updated --- I just don't know how BeamNG's mod system works so it's kind of hard (for me at least) to make an addon parts mod for a car
don't expect a step by step tutorial, try to research the wiki or file directories for a a better understanding. Perhaps there's something here: https://documentation.beamng.com/vehicle_system/index.html For a mod like that, I imagine you at least need some sort of basic programming knowledge.
Mission accomplished ! I saw a similar question/request a while ago. This time I thought I should give it a try. I left the ratios of the SBR's 6 manual untouched so this is how it pulls with the performance electric motor. First gear is quite a drag The same run from cockpît view below I don't know about the ethical nature of sharing a device like this, I will leave that in the middle for now. It might be an interesting discussion, if civilized off course
