So I noticed as I'm sure others have that there is an ABS light on the dash that you can add to the hud. Now so far as I can tell none of the vehicles in the game so far use it. Obviously it is planned to be added in sometime, but my question is are there any vehicles that do use it that I have just missed?
Re: ABS D15 has it on the back wheels, although it doesnt seem to work too well I think its because all the weight then shifts forwards off the backwheels and perhaps screws with it. EDIT: Yeah, weight shift. It works much better when travelling in reverse - - - Updated - - - Back once more. Through scientific research I have established that the D15, H15/45 and Grand Marshal all have ABS with it only really working effectively on the Grand Marshal. The Covet, Bolide, Moonhawk and Pigeon are missing it
Re: ABS Grand Marshal is the only current car new/civil enough to have 4-wheel ABS. Trucks and vans in the mid 90s didn't have 4-wheel ABS, just rear ABS.
Re: ABS Uhh.. Not really, the weight transfers to the front of the vehicle when you're braking hard. Less on the rear. Also ABS sucks, only useful for knee jerk reaction braking. Otherwise its not hard to find the sweet spot where it just wants to let go of traction. ABS will kill you on ice and snow or gravel.
Re: ABS That explains it, haven't really been using the Grand Marshal much. Having too much fun with the Pigeon and the trucks. I wasn't sure though because the vehicles in here so far did seem quite old and I wasn't sure if they'd have it.
Re: ABS When you don't have a load in the back of a van or truck (Especially in a truck, especially, especially in a small Ranger like truck) the back of the vehicle is very light meaning the traction is less than great, the back can swing around on you.
Re: ABS Yeah the weight shifts to the front, but the front wheels are biased towards when you put the brakes on. They are usually the first to lock up. And i agree that abs on only the back wheels is kinda useless. "we can't steer but thank god the drive wheels are still rolling"
Re: ABS Can confirm Almost was killed by ABS in a late 90's Camry which slid out into the middle of a major intersection due to the ABS activating too readily, and slush on the road.
Re: ABS This coming from a young'n who doesn't drive. They are biased to the front yes, but they don't always lock up first. Again, vehicle manufacturers put ABS on the rear first for a reason.
Re: ABS There is a reason why cars have bigger brakes in the front. It's the same reason ABS was only in the back. It's to prevent the back from locking up and thus causing MASSIVE oversteer. Ideally the front wheels should do more of the braking, so that the car remains stable. However, if the back wheels locked up you'd have the same effect as yanking the parking brake - the back end would overtake the front end, causing loss of control.
Re: ABS No I don't drive, but I have some time behind the wheel of a car, and have pushed a few to their limits. I've always gotten the front wheels to lock up first. Yeah I can understand how you don't want the back end to swing around on you, and I'd say its pretty easy in an empty pickup.
Re: ABS Just because I don't have my license doesn't mean I don't know how to drive a car. :| I've done quite a bit of driving, actually. Me. I know this doesn't prove much skill wise, but whatever.
potato cars may be different but on a truck the back will always lock up first because it's so much lighter there is more brake in the front but because of the weight it won't lock up first.
Well if we're just talking about trucks, then I agree that the back will lock up first. I thought we were talking about all cars in general.
