I know it's been discussed, and I know people have come out with barely decent fixes (BARELY decent), and I know it's difficult to do. All of this said, the game would be 1000x more appealing if it had good, functional, PRACTICAL mouse controlled steering as an option. It's nearly impossible to drive at high speed or do any sort of off road driving or crawling with the keyboard steering. I know I'm not the only person who doesn't want to have to find an input map for the plethora of input devices, or have to go out and buy an Xbox controller to make this game really enjoyable. So please, possibly in development as a control option, could we get mouse controlled steering? Thanks guys. The rest of the game is absolutely amazing and beautiful.

Yeah, I would like this feature too. It's in LFS and it's pretty good. Would love something similar to that.

its not impossible, you just have to not floor the vehicle, and just throttle it (dont just hold it down, slowly speed up be pressing it every once in a while, then youll be fine) ive also done off-road driving and crawling very easily on keyboard, just stop trying to floor the vehicles, this is a REAL, PHYSICS, SIMULATOR, its not like need for speed, or forza or something like that

I've had this game for a few months now and I'm loving it. And guess what :O I use the keyboard controls and I probably always will. I see NO problems whatsoever with keyboard steering and throttle. When I want to make lighter turns or go slower, simply tap the turn button or the throttle repeatedly. Just as easy as that. It might take some getting used to though. since this is coming from a guy who's been playing car-related games on the PC since 2004. (Granted they were very low quality back then.)

I've used keyboards for racing games until I finally got a wireless adapter for one of our Xbox controllers. Ya just gotta learn how to do it right. (Although, nothing beats a wheel. I used to have a wheel and even though it was really old, it was pretty good until the gas pedal broke off..)

This game totally needs Mouse Steering.

The keyboard control is ridiculous. Whipping back and forth in a retarded motion.....

Play LFS, get used to mouse control and you will be competitive with wheel and gamepad setups....

Mouse Steering would be a VERY welcome and smart code to implement into this simulation.

It's bad and it might not even work, but it's possible: Post-Your-Inputmaps!
I don't feel like fixing it if it's broken, though

Disclaimer: Use at your own risk ;)

He means that when you turn with a keyboard the wheels just go all the way to right or left very fast, with the mouse you can make it turn slightly or make it turn hard.

For the record, I formally retract my complaint... I bit the bullet, got a controller, and now it's a THOUSAND times better. And I like having the mouse to look around:)

We don't need mouse steering. I already experienced it when I fly planes in Roblox; I don't want this game to be messed up too.

I'm so used to Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

Just because some people are happy to have keyboard steering, doesn't mean no one should have it. You'll never be forced to use it. I just find it almost impossible to recover from a slide without overcorrecting, this is where mouse steering would come in so handy. And it'll make the game a much better experience. Tapping the steering is a stupid idea, try doing that in the pigeon and see where you get.

Driving games with a kb/m just seems wrong to me. Sure it's possible to make it work but it just doesn't feel right. The controller is a bit better but still very hard to get the delicacy of control needed to handle some of these cars. If they can figure out how to put it in then sure go for it, there's nothing wrong with having as many input methods as possible. It's just nothing compares to a wheel the way you just have total natural control over everything.

I've never liked the way driving games are scaled on controllers it always seems like (especially with the brake and gas pedals) there is not much middle ground you either get nothing or you lock up the tires... Man I just need to get a wheel, it would make this game so much better.

Yeah a wheel would be nice, but you either get a really expensive one or there's no point. Plus I play on a laptop so I dont want to have to carry a wheel/controller around with me :p

So we can all agree.... a "toggle-able" mouse steering mode would be a welcome addition to BEAM.NG!

I've never had any problem with using my keyboard to drive cars. Ever since I was very little, that's what I used playing NFS Hot Pursuit and any other driving game. All it takes is a bit of practice and learning how much to tap the keys to make the car do exactly what you want. With that being said, however, I do think it would be nice to add a mouse steering option to the game. With the keyboard I find it difficult to drive from the cockpit view without removing the steering wheel because it's always spinning all over the place when you tap the keys, which is a little bit distracting and annoying. The biggest annoyance with a keyboard IMO is how you don't have analog gas/brakes/clutch and therefore you have to use auto clutch unless you shift like a grand-mother and you always lock up your wheels when braking.

I will yet again try at mouse steering as an app tomorrow.
