They were only significant in the market until car companys sobered up and started producing realistic cars again. So only for few short years. You say they sold well and that may be very well true... For what they were, what happens when you compare it to the generic and boring Toyota Corolla, or the chev Impala, or any other normal modern car, i dont think they were that popular. And do you know anyone who actually likes these things for what they are and not for being odd ugly car ? And can you tell me how they were advanced or technologically superior to that of the average car from the '90s. I think they were significant in the fact that car companys realized that having people like Elon Musk as designers was a bad idea...

You're not wrong but I think the S197, Challenger, PT, 400z, and Prowler all do retro a bit differently.

If they were to go down the retro route with the Burnside they should (imo) lean towards the Mustang, 400z, and Challenger way, where it's more of a modernization unlike the PT which I think is more of a reinvention.

    To put it simply:

    This type reboot brings joy

And this type of reboot does not:

    • The PT Cruiser sold 2000-2010
    • The S197 was 2005-2014
    • The LC Challenger is 2008-Present
    • New Bronco: Not even out yet, one of the most hyped cars in memory alongside the C8 Corvette
    • Wrangler/Mercades G-Series: More of never advanced past their old designs than proper retro, but still both are iconic and sell well (extremely well in the Wrangler's case)
    • Porsche 911: Same as the above SUVs.. Never really changed designs that much but it's the gold standard for affordable performance fun. Well, they use to be affordable
    • BMW Z8: Widely agreed to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made, can't even touch until around 250k USD nowadays
    • Alpha/Zeta Chevy Camaro: 2009-Present. Not exactly a rare or unappreciated car, even if GM is too scared of it overshadowing the Corvette to actually make it interesting
    • VW New Beetle (1998-2011): It has a following
    • Alpine A110: Again, has a following among car people
    • 2005/2006 Ford GT: an iconic vehicle all around
    • Fiat 500: 2007-Present: Has a following. Doug Demuro called it the most fun you can have for under $9k
    • EV Hummer: Where do I even start with this one?.. Crazy performance luxury electric truck that can crab walk. I have no idea how Duncan Aldred can say it isn't retro, it seems like the most stereotypical retro design I can think of...

We are not talking about a single year fad here. We are talking about an entire decade (or two), specifically one that we are nearly completely missing in the roster. Some of the best selling cars on the market (Wrangler), some incredible performance cars (GT, GT500 Super Snake, the Demon), some of the most hyped cars in my lifetime (Bronco), some cars with a serious cult following (PT Cruiser), cars widely loved by car guys (Z8, A110)...

If no one liked them then why can't you even touch a Z8 for less than a quarter million dollars, why is everyone praising the Bronco and A110 and EV Hummer and Wrangler, why are half the cars you see in thge Hamptons Wranglers and G-Wagons, why are some of those cars the best selling across the board and most anticipated in years? If they were a bad idea then why are they still around after 20 years and include some of the top vehicles in the market? And why do they need to be advanced or technologically innovative? Our roster would then have mostly top of the line luxury cars then, which we have exactly 0 of. And I'd say the EV Hummer and Bronco have a lot of great new features. And the Demon set a fair number of records so that's innovative in that sense.

I'm teetering on the ideas of a whole new mid-2000s car or a next/previous generation of one of the existing cars (for example a 2004 Sunburst or a 2007 I-Series)

On one hand a new car would be fresh and give the devs a chance to make something they've never made

But on the other hand it'd be cool to see older versions of the modern cars or a newer version of the older ones.

Aight I have read the past few posts about how we the devs missed a whole generation (2000s), so I decided to try and give my 2 cents into yesterdecade.

Bruckell: So for Bruckell it seems that there newest cars (Wendover and LeGran) were FWD, at least I think, so what if they continued that energy into the 90s and 00s. I think a candidate for a early 2000s front-wheel-drive car is the Ford ZX2. Now granted, I am really not sure is the ZX2 is FWD, but when I think about the 2000s, I think of small FWD coupes.

Gavril: Ok, this will be about trucks. This was always needed. A medium duty truck. Maybe it would look more 1990s, than 2000s, but it would work nonetheless. My second vehicle would be a mid 2000s SUV. This would be similar to the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica crossover.

Other: How about new car brands? Maybe something from South American, or Finland, or Ireland? I have an idea for S. America, a Ute, like the Chevy Montana. And for Finland, how about a brand like Sisu, as a Cab-Beside-Engine manufacturer.

That’s all I gotta say. I might do something similar for the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Gavril/Burnside has 9 vehicles, 1/3 of our entire roster. 4 of them are trucks from 1985-2006. We do not need more vehicles in that category.

As for new brands, we absolutely need British and Sweedish representation. South Korea and the USSR are strong possibilities as well. Canada has 2 real options: retcon Wentward or give them a 1 model performance car brand. I really think doing the misc countries would get too messy for the roster, especially for the casual player base. Sorry Brazilian Charger... That just leaves Australia, which is somewhere between the countries with major industry and those misc countries since so many of their cars were on American/British platforms. I'm not even going to get into the Chinese automotive industry with this as that would get weird fast.

Honestly I just want more variety. Add cars from years and categories that haven't been filled yet, even if they're not too fun to drive. I do think that the 00's are blank space that should be filled, probably by a crossover if we're being realistic. But then again, Pontiac Solstice/VX220 style roadster sports car...

I have mods with modern SUV's supercars and so much other stuff.

    Yet no modern trucks. o_O

I find it strange that NOBODY that I know has made a modern truck mod, that is not automation.

What about trucks make everybody make mods for everything else.

Suggestion for the BeamNG team, make a modern truck please and for a truck from the 90's the OG blue boi has an outdated interior so if you can please make it more, "up to date" for the time it was made.

Just something I think would make BeamNG better.
