Every time I tried to update the game, this window would pop up: Update Error.JPG
I deleted and reinstalled the game, using the download on my orders page.
After I reinstalled, when I try to run the game I get another pop up: Corrupted Directory.JPG
    How do I fix it?
    --Update--
I deleted my entire game, which is why I can't play BeamNG.drive anymore. I've tried every single download on this website, only to see those 2 pop ups. :(

    Re: Corrupted Directory (NOT SOLVED)

This is the exact problem I am having presently. I uninstalled my game to install using the new launcher. It seems to have installed correctly, but when I try to run the updater executable, I get your first error message and when I try to run the game executable, I get the corrupted directory message. The game worked fine on my old Windows 7 computer. The one I am using now is Windows 8.1. From my hitherto bad experience using Windows 8, I think this is probably an issue with Windows 8 rather than BeamNG.Drive. I am currently looking for a fix or workaround of some sort. I will post again if I find anything.

No I don't have Skype. But if you had something in mind you could post it here; that's what this thread is for.

i was talking to thread starter.
what im thinking is if there is some way to get the guy a complete game, if he shows proof of purchase(he has the badge though)
then he could just stick it in the beamng directory.

please tell me if this is not a good idea though. I dont want to do anything that is illegal/rips off the devs

Innumerable pardons, I merely glanced at the quote in your post and assumed it was a quote of my quote because I had posted the most recently. Either way, if you have an idea on how to fix this issue, it would be better to post it here for everyone who is having this issue so we don't end up with a bunch of people starting new threads concerning this old problem.

On your proposed solution to the issue: I'm relatively certain that any unauthorized redistribution of the software is in violation of the End User License Agreement. I will check on this to be sure. However, there will undoubtedly be more people trying to use the game on a Windows 8 computer in the future. If this is an issue for all of those people, a more reliable and permanent solution would be in order.

I would love to see some ideas posted here. I am in almost the same boat. I downloaded the game 06 July, everything said it installed and updated fine. Yet, I go exactly the same message about a corrupted file. I never had a working install to begin with.

Is it possible that the repository at BeamNG got corrupted recently, so it's only affecting new downloads?

Corrupted directory, you say? I think the updater will react if it's in a folder titled BeamNG, and install there instead. Try making a folder titled BeamNG somewhere else (Documents\My Games is probably a good choice), plonking the updater/installer down in that folder and then running it. As always, also try disabling antiviruses/firewalls for the duration of the installation to make sure the problem is with Windows/BeamNG and not them interfering due to false positives.

Edit: Like mentioned above it could also be a corrupted repository. I'll download a fresh copy tomorrow and give it a go.

Your anti-virus can interrupt the download process and create such corrupt files :-/

Please make sure to turn it off if you experience this.

So it is indeed a problem exclusive to Windows 8 then? That's what I thought initially, but I've been trying everything I can think of to get it to work. Thank you very much for looking into this issue.

I run on Windows 8.1 on my new machine and I haven't had any problems with it. I don't think it's a Windows 8.1 problem.

    Re: Corrupted Directory (NOT SOLVED)

Ok, we have a lot of people saying either that they have not experienced any problems on Windows 8+ or that they have experienced it in Windows 7 (or older). If that is not the issue, let's find out what is. The first logical step, by my way of thinking, would be to check all sorts of protection/antivirus programs to see if they might be causing the problem. Everyone here experiencing this issue has been told previously to disable any and all programs of the sort. In my case, this did not fix the issue. I am going to assume that anyone else who posted about having this problem in this thread has already tried that and had the same result. But, if everyone who posted in this thread (yes, even those who never once experienced this issue) could post all of the programs which could possibly cause the game to not install correctly that have on their computer(yes, even if you have already tried disabling them), we might be able to identify the source of the problem. The development team cannot be expected to solve the problem we are having if we don't even give them any information on what could be causing it.

The only software on my computer that I think could possibly interfere with the installation of the game is listed below:
    • EMET
    • Spybot
    • Spybot 2
    • Avast! Antivirus
    • Malwarebytes
    • McAfee

I have already tried disabling everything and reinstalling with no success. Hopefully, if we can get everybody to post this information, we might be able to recognize what is causing the problem.

    Re: Corrupted Directory (NOT SOLVED)

I have Windows 7 and Windows 8, and avast! antivirus. Avast's heuristics pitched an absolute fit when I first got the update, 5 hours after it launched. Two hours later a definitions update seemed to clear up any issues avast! had with the files. (It got most mad about .dll files.) Seeing as I just downloaded a brand new copy of the game today on my brand new (as of Monday, only got WiFi working late Tuesday) Windows 8 desktop with avast! running, I doubt that it's the source of the issue.

EDIT 2: McAfee has been confirmed by others to have interfered in the past, albeit with a different error.

EDIT: Possibly relevant: Microsoft thinks a very similar error is caused by an antivirus for an unrelated (to BeamNG) piece of software.

    Re: Corrupted Directory (NOT SOLVED)

It has been confirmed numerous times across the forums to be antivirus interfering with the download process. Notably Avira, Norton and McAfee. Why do you have so many antivirus programs though??? The recommendation from several sources (including security "experts") has always been to never run multiple real time antiviruses at the same time. Malwarebytes and EMET dont offer realtime protection for the entire system. But Spybot, Spybot 2, Avast and McAfee at the same time? That is really taking the piss and only serves to cause more problems than it solves. You are now going to suffer from high idle CPU usage and only 1 antivirus at a time will be scanning 1 file for the very same reason that they corrupt BeamNG files, ie you can't open a file in multiple programs at once and if you do attempt it then they just keep reading and writing out of sync and corrupt them.

Anyway. Long since been confirmed, disable antivirus before trying to install BeamNG

    Re: Corrupted Directory (NOT SOLVED)

I'm not sure exactly at what point this thread became about my CPU usage (which is actually incredibly low while idle). Believe me, performance is not an issue at all. The more different programs you have, the less likely that a threat will go undetected. Some programs pick up things that others do not. That is a fact. And I know (and have acknowledged (in this very thread) the fact that) antivirus interferes with the BeamNG installation. I, like the other people here, have tried disabling antivirus with no success. Also, I thought that this particular error was new—that people who were having problems with antivirus in the past received different errors.

    Side-by-side configuration is incorrect?

After waiting for a really long time I decided to try again.
Now when I run BeamNG.drive it shows this:

    Problem.JPG

I'll try disabling McAfee and reinstall.

EDIT: McAfee is trying to scan the files while they install, which explains why this happened:
file_error| alpha_prerace file (C:\Users\Derrick\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\alpha_prerace\directx-redist\Mar2009_d3dx10_41_x64.cab) error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

torrent_error| alpha_prerace ERROR: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

    - - - Updated - - -

    Got BeamNG.drive working :D
    Thanks for all the help.
