Now that we have reached the point in v0.21 where decimal TOD has been traded for digital hh:mm time, would it be possible to have in car clocks or a UI app that shows the TOD in game, instead of merely showing the real time on one's computer in their local time zone? Actually, it could be beneficial to have a button on either an app or a car dash that allows one to toggle back and forth between local computer time and game time. That way, the user has the choice of which one they want to display. At the very least I think it's worth considering, IMHO.
VeyronBD's LTD had this feature. It was Lua based. But it broke several versions ago. It is possible though
Thanks for letting me know it's at least possible. I've seen it on Cessna 172's in Flight Simulator, but not a car in Beam... at least not yet. To know it's been done gives me a sense of hope.
I believe this is the one I've seen in the UI menu that only shows one's local computer time IRL. It will not show virtual Beam time in the simulator/game. Press Esc, Click the cloud, see the time it is in game, that's what I'm hoping for. It's not a deal breaker if it doesn't get done anytime soon... just it would be a nice extra touch to have. --- Post updated --- I read the posts in the thread. Sounded like people were onto the same idea, even if it was stated in a more roundabout way. So at least I see I'm not alone in envisioning such a thing. Thank you for the link.
Well now that's an interesting twist on things, and certainly thinking outside the box. Though that's really the opposite of what I'm thinking, in as much as I want what the time is-- IN the game itself-- to display, totally independent of what time it is in real life. You'd like to see real life be the determining factor of not just what the clock says in the game, but what position the sun is in the sky, whether it's light or dark, etc. That would be interesting, and I think that's the second step, after what I'm proposing. For now I play mostly at night, so I'd always be driving in the dark! LOL Not necessarily ideal, but overall I like where you're going with it.
Yes, understood, but that's not what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of the opposite... a clock that shows the time in the game, based upon the sun's position in the sky, in the game. That having nothing to do with the time on one's computer. In other words, I could be playing the game in my office at 10:30pm, but if the sun is straight up in the game, I want a clock that will display 12 noon, and tick off each minute as time elapses (assuming the "play" checkmark is checked). To beat a dead horse (sorry about that)... a clock that basically displays what's pictured below, so I don't have to leave this panel open, while I'm playing the game/simulator, in order to see what the game time is.
I think its a good idea and since its easy enough to implement I made it. I uploaded it to the BeamNG mod page but it looks like the BeamNG support team will be back on January 4 to moderate it before publishing it publicly. So until then, here is the zip file.
