a few ideas and questions: what about skidmarks? effects like sparks, particles, dust, etc. ? maybe some burnout smoke? what about sounds? maybe a little sound preview? sorry if some questions are already asked.
what about shadows ?? No, the parts are not predefined, and yes, you can cut the truck in half. so it is posible to tear the parts? like the cloth physx thing?
If you look at the videos and pictures you will see that the cars allready have shadows. And yes if look closely at they're second video you will se that the bumpers and headlight are falling from the car, i think that cutting the car in half is possible but why wold you do that
This is a Work in Progress game, those features are very standard on car racing/simulation games, I'm sure they will include it. They also stated they are working on the particles so just stay tuned and wait.
i hope the burnout smoke will be done nicely. i hate when only on the bottom end is smoke (like this ). a real burnout looks different than most racing games demonstrate it. gta4 made it look ok but it should look like this. just not that detailed.
I think we're aware of what skidding a car looks like, that and the fumeFx stuff is rather expensive in terms of computing power. Particle effects are standard, the devs already know how to make those. chances are we will end up with some particle effects.
what about fluids? like you overheat your engine doing burnouts and something in the engine bay breaks and water from the cooler leaks. and steam is everywhere. or your diff breaks driving over a stone and the oil drains out. what about flames? like the engie runs too rich and the car spits fire out of the exhaust? or maybe an old car that smokes out of the exhaust more than others. or you blow your headgasket or the turbo and lots of smoke comes out of the exhaust? maybe something like in gta 4 that after some crashes its hard to start the car? maybe you crash and gasoline leaks and it can burn or explode? what about wind resistance? lets say the bonet isnt colsed and you drive. and as fastar you go suddenly the hood pops off or flys away. hmm.. maybe make the engine hot. like if you start the car its cold but after pushing it to its limits it warms up and couses flames poping exhaust and if you drive through some water steam comes out from the bonit. i have tons of stupid ideas. maybe i will post more to inspire the devs no know they have way too much to do. but i am bored so ....
Totally agree with everything you say. But this will all be very expensive when it comes down to computing power. It will be even more expensive and time consuming to integrate. I really do love all of these realism ideas!
Supercomputers, supercomputers everywhere. 15 years from now this will be possible I guess, now; not really.
its perfectly possible. Particle effects can be used easily and air resistance should be possible anyway. we had airplanes and helicopters in RoR.
look at a game called "From Dust", also look at the blood effects in a game called "Overgrowth". One is a real-time fluid simulation, another is a simplified fluid simulation that manipulates texels.
Hmm, I guess I'm wrong again. :l Would it be very difficult to simulate the physical fuel and combustion taking place inside the car?
Neither of those are fluid simulation. From Dust uses a particle system for water, essentially very large particles surrounded by a mesh, when two particles get close enough their mesh joins up to create a simple but effective feeling of real water. Overgrowth uses simple 2d particles, mixed with (a damn awesome) texel based dripping animation. Either way however, i do not think tuningFreak meant to literally simulate all these things, but rather to just fake them with effects and particles based on where the collision took place.
