I don't think I have seen one ever and recognised it. Those exist and are popular here but they don't make it into your memory. In other words, its the perfect car for getting away with being dumb. OT: I installed aftermarket fog lights on the Regal last week. One of the factory ones filled up with water, so instead of paying double for one fog light I just bought two cheap glass ones. They work much better than stock and are a much brighter color. I wired them to the broken bulbs, so they use the factory switch and can easily swapped back to stock.
I'd never really taken notice of them either. It is not a distinctive look at all. The front is basically ripped off from the lexus LS and the back end looks very Mazda 6-ish to me. The 2.4l i4 makes a peppy 162hp and likes to rev out. It loves abuse; eats everything up. No warning lights on the dash. This car doesn't even have ABS.
Decided to try hacking the wiring on my stock head unit to get rid of the Bose system automatic equalizer. Was as easy as bending one pin down on the head unit and plugging the loom back in. Now I can access the manual eq and also enable the vehicle speed dependent volume control. Sounds so much nicer now that I can tone down the mids and boost the lows slightly. Imo any aftermarket head unit looks off where it's placed so I want to keep the original. I have fitted a bluetooth receiver on place of the CD changer and now unlocked the eq, so I don't really have any need to anyway feature-wise. old pic
I just found out my water pump was deeply corroded, i noticed one of pipes was swelling and leaking at the base, so i undid the clips holding it and pulled the hose off, it took the connecting part right off the pump and i barely gave it any strength it was that bad. Those hoses and pump are the 45 year old originals, and with the high mileage on the clock im surprised it hasn't already been replaced. Oh well better discover it while im at home than on the highway :/ I guess i never really got "ol' reliable" feelings from this engine, and to think that yesterday i was stuck in peak hour traffic, my god its a wonder how it didn't give up then. Next thing to get done is the front suspension and points now. Oh goody old cars are fun aren't they...

Today I noticed that the automatic lights or "Twilight Sentinel" doesn't work anymore. It's supposed to tun the lights on if it's dark and turn them off when it's bright outside but now they stay on all the time. I suspected the twilight sentines module at first because that's usually the culprit but after testing it it seems fine. Turns out the light sensor mounted under the vent in the dashboard is broken and tells the computer it's dark all the time. Sad part is that this light sensor isn't aviable from GM anymore and the only thing I can find are used one's from the scrap yard for ridiculous prices! So I guess I'll have to turn on/off the lights manually now. #firstworldproblems

Installed a Cherry Bomb because racecar. Its perfect because it is barely louder than before but sounds so much better. I need to put a bend in the pipe though, it melted the bumper a little where it is touching.
My car still needs some work, has been neglected for the past couple years. The fog light kit was a factory optional back in the day, made by Bosch. I bought it from WA, it can get foggy up there.

Last night I changed the power steering pump in my truck for the second time. The first time (November 2019) the original was rotted around the lines and leaking. I got one from Napa (big mistake). It leaked ever since I put it on, and within a week one line blew off and I ran it out of fluid. This happened two more times, both while plowing snow. After that it was fine all summer beside making noise from being ran out of fluid three times and having to top off the fluid every two weeks. Now, Thursday we had 15 inches of snow. I plowed my driveway, all good , headed out to go plow at my grandparents and at work. About halfway there the steering started getting tight, ok, maybe the fluid is low, I haven’t checked it for a while. Pulled over and checked, nope, the line blew off again. I put it back on and luckily I carry a quart of power steering fluid around (next to my quart of engine oil). I didn’t get a mile down the road and it was empty again, guess the pump is done now. Snow still needed to be moved, that was fun with no power steering. This was one of those days that nothing went right. My grandparents snowblower wouldn’t start, three year old bad gas. No way I’m shoveling that all by hand, I had to take that to work and clean the carb. Then while plowing at work, my plow would only angle one way. What now? Turned out to be an easy fix, a pin just came out of one of the angle cylinders. Then moving cars around to plow, I got a customers van stuck because the damn borough didn’t plow any of the side roads and it was all packed down like ice. Chevy Expresses with bald tires and snow are not a good combo in case anyone was wondering. What should have taken 2 hours took me all day, then I still had to go home and take the power steering pump out of my truck so I could put the new one in tomorrow night. I got the new one in, hopefully 2 years of chasing leaks and blowing lines off is done. This one should be better quality. Apparently this was a problem on these trucks since GM has a kit to bypass the one valve which I didn’t know about when I replaced the first one. I’m thinking that along with the extra weight from the snowplow and low quality Napa parts in general was causing my problems. On the bright side, I shouldn’t have to worry about the front of my truck rotting with the amount of oil on everything. Sorry, had to vent.

I replaced the water pump and hoses, the original as corroded as it was and unsurprisingly the bearings within were also gone, i was wondering what that screeching noise was coming from the front. Im really surprised they lasted this long. Also got the distributer timing retarded a bit (uh i said a bad word i get beaned now), previously it was 12 degrees advanced (if thats the correct terminology) and now its set to about 8 degrees, factory with all the emission control crap it says on the little card under the bonnet (amazed its still there) that it should be at 6 degrees, buts with a brand new engine. Now the fun thing, I had a good look at the carb, and to my surprise what do i notice when i give the throttle cable a good yank... The secondaries didn't open up, at all. So thats why it felt so sluggish at higher speeds, at lower speeds i never thought much of the reluctance to really get going when i floored it on account of it having a 2:78 diff ratio, yet always striked me as odd when at a solid 100kmh it didn't go as hard as it should do, seeing as at that speed the engine rpm is right in its range of maximum torque (or close to it anyway) and so that was the reason. I just wiggled the thing or whatever its called and now its moves freely, oooh i tell you what this cars got some over taking power now ! So not only is the engine quieter (with the failed bearing noise gone), somewhat more reliable with the pump and hose replaced (i also had the engine and radiator flushed out, thermo checked too, all good) and more powerful in all situations, i have been cruising around for a bit, then i gave every one a shock at my family get together every year when i rocked up in this thing. Oh life has been fun, even though i just got turned own for another job, im still enjoying things. Buts theres a dark cloud looming overhead this car, i noticed that now the valves are getting loud and chattery now, even after its been warmed up and at 80+ it feels and sounds like the engine is knocking. Dark times are ahead of me, these are things that should be looked at as soon as one notices, problem is that i can't afford to have expensive things like having the bottom end rebuilt and im certainly not making the mistake of going to some cheap ass mechanic or attempting to do it myself. Maybe i should just put the car in the shed for a while and warm it up every weekend or so, pull it out of the driveway and reverse it in to give the brakes and trans some use and wait until so money ends in the piggy bank. Oh dear the fun is not going to last, but at least its not blowing blue smoke yet.
