    While it is true, in the long run assuming BeamNG is a commercial success, I would love to see it toggleable between CPU and GPU processing. With the GPU processing bringing extra fidelity to the simulation, but being very costly in terms of framerate. Pretty much true of it's implementation in all games that use it.

    Not trying to be a smart ass here but why are you all talking about CPU's and that stuff in the screenshots thread? It's slightly annoying but nothing serious.

    Well from what I've heard DDR3 transmits small chunks of data at high speed which is useful for CPUs and GDDR5 transmits large chunks of data at slow speeds which makes it suitable for GPUs. On the physics argument you could have a dedicated GPU for physics and emulating beams and nodes while another GPU processes the environment and textures etc.

    Everyone commented on the video. A few of the more technical people in here commented on the technical aspects of the video. That naturally led to talk about PC hardware. It's a logical and natural discussion progression.

    If they really like talking about their computers, they should make a proper thread for it anyway. I'm not going to create it because I'm not talking about any computer specs.

    So... ehm.... If you guys ever need someone to do the recording and some editing for you.... I'm your guy XD

    But seriously...... Love the progress! Cant wait for a demo or alpha!
    You guys should make another version of this video but with the camera following the van.

    Yes, but you are off the subject as well arguing with someone. If you really didn't want to go off-topic you would try to ignore off topic posts.

    AFAIK Blender does have basic video editing and compositing features. I don't think they use it for their videos though, they probably use something like Vegas or Premiere which is more suitable.

    We need a thanks or thumbs up button so i don't need to reply to show i agree. +1

    Sorry to the people who don't care to know or read about this. (computery stuff) You guys can just skip this post.

    Yes in the same way that all RAM is related.

    DDR3 = low latency /polling times /refresh times
    • In easy terms it refreshes much quicker than GDDR5 but is quite slow at transferring data
    GDDR5 = high latency /polling times /refresh times
    • In easy terms it doesn't refresh very fast (it doesn't need to if your screen is only 60fps) but it transfers a lot of data very fast when it does.

    In an ideal world we would be running off the CPU's cache because it is incredibly fast, but sadly we normally only get about 4mb of that stuff. 3MB of Level3 cache is common and the amount gets smaller the closer you get to the processing area of the CPU. As the closer you get to the Processing area the faster it can be but it also means there is less space to put it.

    - - - Small off-topic Aside - - -

    Personally i don't see what is wrong with the discussions going slightly off topic as long as they are still related to the topic itself, I am still talking about BeamNG after all. Personally i think that it is worst when everyone complains as that is much further off topic than i ever went. My post is a related to a topic that the Tdev commented on in this same thread anyway.

    Why are you posting commonly known information? I was just saying that your claims of 'GDDR5 is much faster than DDR3' were false as that is not the case. Each has a specific advantage over the other. Also, what CPUs are you looking at that have 3mb of cache? Mine has 6mb of l3 cache and it's only a notebook processor.

    well I must be uncommon because the information was new to me. Not everyone constantly researches the differences between the latest ram technologies. Thanks aljowen.

    Also, where did you say that his claims of GDDR5 being faster were false? Looking through your posts in this thread, all I see is:
    Maybe I'm a little slow, but how am I supposed read that^^ to make it turn into this:
    You made no mention of that. Well, maybe you were speaking about a different post, but your post history doesn't contain any posts (other than the one I'm replying to) mentioning the differences between DDR3 and GDDR5.

    No need to be rude to someone who kindly and informatively replied to your (shit)post just because you didn't need the information.
