I uninstalled my old copy of BeamNG, downloaded the pre-race update from the Download tab, installed (to a custom location, since I don't like having anything that I use commonly hidden in the AppData folder, but I did also try installing it to the default location), and let it update itself. I didn't get any errors, but all I have in the installation folder is the updater (BeamNG.update.exe), "license.txt", and the "alpha_prerace" folder, which doesn't contain the launcher. Also, at the end of the installation, if I leave the "Run on Close" option checked, nothing happens. What did I do wrong, and how can I fix it? Thanks.

You need to download BeamNG.Drive first, install the full game, and then run the pre-race update

Where do I download it from? Is it not the "Downloads" tab, where I got the setup file from?

    Run BeamNG.update.exe
or go in the alpha_prerace folder there should be a BeamNG.drive.exe, just run that direct, you have never needed launcher.exe

That's what I'm saying, though. I don't have an .exe with which to run the game. I tried running the updater, but it just throws an error after several minutes, saying that there was no response or something like that.

I am having this exact problem. I only bought this game yesterday and have been trying to find a fix. The updater fails due to it not getting a response and there is no file that allows you to launch the game. I have downloaded / extracted it again a couple of times and still get the same problem. Not many people seem to have this problem, so I've yet to find a way to fix this or see an indication of when the updater is going to work. Any help would be great.

So to bump this, I'm pretty sure the issue is that the updater won't download. My internet isn't that fast, and the torrent seems to time out before starting. Is there a direct-download updater that I and people like me could use?

all of you have to uninstall the game and re download it again.

    Important!!!!!

Please disable your firewall and your antivirus for the download and check if your pc is using proxy, if so, disable it for the download as well!

If you still get the same error, contact us here:

I did uninstall and re-download, and I also know that my internet connection and firewall can handle torrents, having downloaded my fair share over the years lol. So unless this is using a port that is blocked by default in Win8, I can't figure out why it isn't working. It doesn't even progress while downloading the torrent's metadata, so something is mos def wrong somewhere.

The biggest problem here is that you didn't disable your firewall. Literally 99% of the problems in the support thread stem from corrupted download because the firewall automatically screens what you download.

Just disable your firewall and AV then re-download, your problems will vanish
