    All,

I've searched the forums and I have found others with the same problem but none of the fixes seem to work for me. I have an HP Pavilion, with Radeon graphics and 6 GB system RAM and a quad core processor. I meet the minimum requirements at the very least.

Upon installing/updating, windows 8 gives me a lovely screen that says that this app is not supported by this computer. The first install put it in a directory called AppData under users, and it seemed that the files were corrupt as attempting to work with them didn't work. I deleted this manually and attempted to install in a different location, as Administrator. I still keep getting the annoying message that the program can't run on Windows and to contact the supplier for a version of it that will.

Any workarounds for this? I'm thinking I may have to virtualize 7 or borrow my son's W7 computer but I'd like to get it running. I do have AV (McAfee) on there...would like to delete it. But it seems to install fine, it just won't run from the executable as user or administrator.

    Thanks!

try re-downloading the installer, and turn of your AV (while it may seem like it's not affecting it, it probably is, espeically since McAfee is known to be the second worst anti-virus currently available (the absolute worst being Norton))

the installer itself may be corrupted, so try re-download, and re-installing (all with your AV Turned off)

if you had searched the forums as extensively as you have claimed, you would have come across several solutions. McAfee is the fault here. It corrupts the download and install procedure. It is also independently verified as one of the poorest performing antivirus suites there is.

I spent quite a bit of time, but obviously not enough. McAfee wasn't my choice, it came pre-infected with the AV suite and I'll kill it and redownload. I am a Linux person by nature; I have not used Windows in any extensive way since XP SP3 and only use it for running Volvo diagnostics in VirtualBox on my laptop. But I was excited as hell to get Beam.NG drive and it was a bit of a buzzkill to get the download finished and have the whole thing be corrupt as hell. I got a hell of a bargain on the HP and it makes a good media server. I'll take your advice and let you know.

    Thanks!

    Kevin

I got quite the same laptop as you (HP dv6 6b66ew) and I have no problem running BeamNG under Windows 8.1 so apparently you did something wrong.

I have some advice for you. The launcher is not correctly placed in the game folder...I will tell you where the launcher is.
You must first delete the desktop shortcut totally. This procedure strangely does not overwrite the launcher icon on the desktop every time, so that is why.
Then, you must make sure "Show all hidden files and folders" is enabled. Some folders you need to access are hidden for some reason. (skip this if you installed BeamNG elsewhere)
Now, go to this directory: C: Local Disk>Users>[name of user]>Appdata>Local>BeamNG>BeamNG.drive.
Once inside your game folder, you will see two folders at the top of the list, alpha_prerace and alpha_stable. Enter alpha-prerace for this next step...doing the rest of the procedure using alpha_stable gives you the old launcher.
Now, scroll down until you see the launcher that is labeled as BeamNG.drive.exe, or just BeamNG.drive depending on your computer. Select it, right-click on it, and hover over "Send to" until the extra sub-menu pops up. Once it does, click on Desktop.
This will send a shortcut of the REAL launcher to your desktop, and your copy of BeamNG should work again.

Please let me know if this procedure worked. It saved me from having to re-install BeamNG a lot of times to no avail.

Sorted. I deleted AV and redownloaded the original .zip package from the email link. Right click, run as administrator, and everything worked. The runtime installed correctly, and the program launched beautifully. Have the desktop shortcut too! Thanks for the advice. I felt kind of stupid given my degree in CompSci and my experience, and I knew AV software would often preclude installs but I didn't realize just how badly it could corrupt dowloads. My hardware is marginal, and without a gamepad the keyboard controls are taking a little getting used to, but it runs to my satisfaction on my HP. I would love to see a Linux port at some time using OpenGL or some other rendering methodology. But for now, I'm happily destroying cars.

Funny you should mention that. Although I don't think it will see the light of day for quite some time, torque3d is in the process of being ported to linux with an OpenGL renderer.

    Hi,

I bought the game yesterday for my laptop (my specs: 8 gb ddr3 RAM i5 1.5ghz with max 2.3 4th generation and intel HD graphics 4000) and technically it shouldn't run but I've had the demo and that ran fine on the lowest setting and last night I downloaded the installer and installed into the default place (appdata/local/beamng/beamng.drive) and it installed without errors and at the end of the wizard it said launch now I ticked it then clicked finish to start with it didn't start so I went to the directory and clicked on beamng.drive and it said this file is corrupt or unreadable. I deleted the installation then re-downloaded the installer off my order and reinstalled it then tried again and the same thing happened SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! Btw I have windows 8 so I am in the right thread

Did you disable your anti virus since that was the solution for OPs problem? (Apparently the same problem as yours.)
