im wondering why it hasn't been done yet if its such a simple task and would not only probably help with multiplayer (even though there are mods for that now) but for some different modders to add more realistic features like lane keep assist and so on. is there some type of game limitation or do the devs just think its not a high priority?

Multiple cameras would help a lot, especially for my driver assistance mod, making it more realistic and work better since the AI waypoints it currently uses to determine lanes, doesn't work great in many cases. And it would allow me to add the backup camera on the infotainment display and I'm sure it would open up many opportunities for other modders as well.

i'm pretty sure it's really difficult to implement, the topic came up way back when multiseat was introduced, because with multiple cameras you could have fully functional split-screen multiplayer, but htey said they couldn't do it since it would require heavily reqorking the rendering system.

I believe this ties into the "functional mirrors" issue, like zoll said, everything is rendered around one camera for reflections, though i may be completely wrong

This wouldn't be difficult to implement at all. In fact it's made available in the BeamNG.tech version of the game (https://documentation.beamng.com/beamng_tech/sensors/camera/). Dynamic reflections, aka cube map reflections, rely on using six cameras to generate the reflections. So the game already uses multiple cameras in the scene, but they aren't made available for our own use.

I have seen a lot of requests for this feature recently so maybe they will implement it if they see it

it would be nice to hear from the devs themselves to see why things are so limited. because this could be very useful to a variety of mods. but if there is a limitation in the game engine im sure the community would like to know but probably will never get answers to.

and again, the engine doesn't support picture in picture as of yet. Hence why it's left as it is as fixing this would be of such low priority.

if it was a engine support issue then how come they were looking into doing stuff like VR support that would possibly require that?
because i guess what is important to a modder isn't important to a dev.
now maybe your right maybe there is engine support problems but of course they never really expressed that when talking about VR support so its kinda very confusing to me. well very confusing
