0.23 Update killed my fps

Before the update when I would drive with traffic, I could get a decent 70fps. Now when I drive 1 car on grid map I get 17fps. I am not sure what happened to my fps, but I noticed that my computer isnt running as hot as it used to.

Laptop Specs

• Intel Core i7-9750H Processor 2.6GHz
• 16GB DDR4-2666 RAM; 1TB HDD+256GB SSD
• RAM ‎16 GB DDR4
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti

 

tbh It suprisingly stayed the same for me

 

That's weird. I have 16GB of ram and a 1660Super, but before the update it was below 30fps on medium settings, but now I get 30+ fps on Ultra.

 

its also like that for me using the vulcan api

 

Ok im pretty sure I know what the issue was
I cleared my cache before playing and im pretty sure that broke the game

 

you should clean cache about every month, that cache stuff can break textures, fps, etc.

 

UI is a web page, same issue with Windows 10 UI, when compared to W7 classic mode or W98, Win10 UI is horribly inefficient, but that is how UI's are build these days.

 

I wish the devs made a better alternative, it gets so laggy that it becomes practically unusable

clockspeed is at around 2.05 to 2.25 ghz while having beamng, firefox, and task manager open

if anything, the fps rate maybe increased by a bit after the update. i got eighty-something fps for like a split second

 

Heck, I got a GTX 970 and a AMD Ryzen 3 3200g and 16GB Of DDR4 3200Mhz Ram! And my FPS increased, its at over a 100, at ultra!

 

Just reinstalled beamng again, shut down my laptop, removed all my mods, and for a couple minutes it runs gridmap at 100 fps, then drops to 14. Man idk what to do, im just gonna give up at this point.

 

That sounds like thermal throttling, have you cleaned up cooling system of your computer recently, what kind of temps you are getting?

Could be numerous of other things too, but temps are worth to check, also if some throttling happens, HwInfo64 is one software to check these things out, run sensors only and in settings set polling frequency to something like 200-500ms, then see if there are any yes words on list. Turbo attenuation and max turbo are normal, others might give indication if your system is throttling.

I use software called Throttlestop to get around some power limits I can't set in Bios, but you have to be careful with that as wrong usage can break your hardware, but as you have had Beam playing much better in the past, it does really sound like cooling system being clogged or something similar.

 

I dont think its thermal throttling, because I can still run a full modded 31 car race in assetto corsa at 120fps. Idk what happened with beam, but all my other games run fine.

 

It has to either be compatibility or something going on. Your drivers are up to date right?

What are your CPU and GPU clock speeds when playing Beam vs other games?

It is really weird that fps slows down like so.
