New PC Build

Hello,
So I am looking at buying a new PC to replace my current one, and was wondering how many FPS I can expect. The PC I am looking at building has these specs:
MSI Z97 PC-Mate
Intel Core i7-4790K
24GB DDR3 2133 (I think 2133 could be 1866 or 2400)
RX 5600XT 6GB GDDR6
Samsung 950 PRO 512GB
Some of these parts I am going to use from my Dell. The i7 has 8 threads, so can I run 7 or 8 cars? Also, should my GPU be able to handle Ultra quality? My current CPU, (Xeon W3670) is a HUGE bottleneck. I get like 20FPS with more than 2 cars. Thanks in advance!

 

This PC should comfortably do 60fps+ on most maps. Obviously the story changes once you start spawning cars, but 3-4 (including yours) shouldn't bring it down too much. You could also try to go with AMD for the CPU but I'm not sure if you will be able to get a good one right now, but it would definitely improve your fps; not by a lot, but still better experience than with Intel

 

your processor is a definite weak point in your PC, but you should be able to run Beam with a few cars on high settings.

 

Not bad, going with 4th gen Intel is a good idea because the processor is cheap for the performance

 

If he goes AMD he will def need to upgrade Ram, anything under 3000 MHz doesnt match well with AMD.

Id go with a I5 10400F or a I5 11400F, similar pricing depending on where you live to the 4790K, and a lot better performance.

 

The gtx 950 is pretty weak but it should be able to squeeze out ultra quality. That cpu on the other hand won’t be able to run 8 cars, maybe 5 or 6.

after 16 gb game performance wiill not improve unless the game is really ram heavy for some reason. and it's ddr3 and pretty slow too.

 

ram rarely effects graphics, ram does more storage for loading maps and cache iirc

ram doesn’t make your computer more powerful when gaming after like 16GB. Plus the ram he has is very old and very slow. That’s like sayin getting a 5tb hard drive makes your games run faster

but I digress. BeamNG is very easy to run and should run decent on the specs op is describing.

 

More RAM = more good is a crappy marketing thing companies used to peddle to consumers as a cheap way of differentiating their product line-ups cheaply and with minimal effort.

Adding more memory to your system is only going to improve things if the system is constantly using all of the available memory and needs more. The memory configuration and speed is generally going to have more of an impact on performance than the amount you have, past a certain point anyway, especially for gaming and non-creative workloads.

With those specs, should I not get at least 7 cars? One car per thread and the single thread performance is the same as a modern CPU.

My current CPU bottlenecks the crap out of my GPU. Even it can manage about 5 cars though

 

Considering the current state of affairs in computer land... Not a bad build to start with. I think some extra cash would definitely yield more however that's always going to be the case.

Ideally I'd look at 6th gen Intel and DDR4 RAM. At the very least things will be a bit snappier (especially moving between cars).

 

How many AI cars, (not counting yours and on a large map, like Italy) can you run with your 7700? The 4790k, 6700(k), 7700(k) all perform about the same.

No problem, the 5600XT is about equal to the 2060 or 1070. I saw in some of the Banana Bench results, people ran like 9 cars on a similar chip, (4770 I think)

 

The SSD will help load times

I have a GTX 1060 6GB, which has been limited by a small form factor case that I had sitting around and a custom form factor 300W power supply.... not great.

However, I can crank BeamNG up to ultra lighting and normal textures.
This may sound like a dumb idea, but try it: if your PC lags when driving through heavy bushes, slowing to maybe 35fps, try setting the FPS limiter to 30. It doesn't feel slow at all, because it doesn't lag because the graphics card can keep up with 30.

Your PC is greatly better than mine, but it might be worth going for a better CPU and less RAM. I never go over 60% full with 16GB of RAM, even with 4 cars (about the limit for my CPU).

Perhaps a 6 or 8 core, and if on a budget go AMD? There are some really good value AMD processors out there.

If you limit FPS to 30 then it feels smooth while looking great. Trust me.
