Having seen a 4670k overheating on the stock cooler without an overclock I am not even going there, the intel stock cooler is absolutely terrible. True this was with a horizontal motherboard mounting so slightly unconventional, but it shouldnt go from running fine to throttling at idle just by rotating the motherboard 90 degrees. Guy that owns that rig now runs a corsair H50 and actually hits the corsair claimed temperatures (although they are claimed for a different chip) with a 38c idle and about 50c under the heaviest load he can exert on it, also had totally normal temperatures from the aftermarket cooler he had in his old PC, just the intel stock cooler being problematic.
I'd ignore it, but I'm actually going for a mini ITX build in a bitfenix prodigy, near identical setup that he used.

    HELL YEAH.

4.8GHz. I can probably squeeze a bit more speed out of it.

What volts????? The 5970 CPU thing runs at 5.0IIRC and needs an AIO to stay under 75c. :/

My results on a i7 4700mq @ 3.4ghz (it was downclocking as the test had finished which is why its showing 3,192mhz in cpu-z)

I did some tweaking to my overclock to make it more stable and I gained about 2.5 max mbeams without changing the clock speed. :D

What are you using to cool that CPU? I'm thinking of picking up an AIO cooler to do some actual overclocking. The H212 Evo just barely cuts it in my H440. With the summer heat I need to pull off the front panel to get better airflow to prevent overheating during long gaming sessions.

Just a Kuhler H2o 620 that I got for $40 at Best Buy. I have two fans in push/pull on the radiator. (One is a stock NZXT fan and the other is some old one I got out of an old PowerPC Mac.)

I was thinking of getting either an H110i or H110. I don't know if I could fit a push pull configuration in my case, but if I could I would love to do push pull with some Noctua NF-F12's. It would be rather expensive, but probably well worth it.

Fans on just one side should be fine. I only did push/pull because I just had the fan laying around.

The only reason I was thinking of doing push/pull was to run the fans at much lower speeds to keep the noise down, but that really doesn't matter to me. Being a headphone user I never notice the computer anyways.

I don't think it really makes much of a difference.

Ok, So this was really the most I would push the CPU to, considering 5.2GHz required more than 1.56V

    (imported from here)

    5.1GHz @ 1.54V. Almost 100 Mbeams/s

I am so tempted to delid. I'd be able to push 1.3v and 4.4Ghz all day. :( Not worth the risk sadly.

Related to the AIO discussion above, I've been eyeing the 280l. Biggest AIO that I know of and cools everything. Even operating at half speed it kept 340w of CPU under 30c over ambient. I tend to keep it around 30c in the summer :)() so that's only 60c if it's perfect. It's obvously not going to be but holy crap. I just need that, a delidded 4790k, a HALE PSU, and this new mobo. I have a black and white case, a black GPU, a white cold cathode, and black cables. :|
