Is it just me driving really suck, or in BeamNG, FWD vehicles are better than RWD vehicles? I have been driving 2WD rallying for a while, many vehicles have rally suspension so I made some RWD rally vehicles (some configs), and the results are the Covet rally is better than Moonhawk, Barstow, Grand Marshal, 200BX and even Bolide. The rally Covet is faster than most if all of them on many rally circuits.

    According to the replies:
    1. FWD is more stable than RWD, so the driver can push the car to its limit most of the time. This is also the reason that FWD rally cars are more than RWD ones.
    2. On gravel, shoving the dirt to the rear gains extra grip, because of reactive force. This is not fully simulated in BeamNG.
    3. The Ibishu Covet or some similar hot hatches, can be very competent in rallying.

RWD can be really hard in rallying, for me best is AWD

Generally FWD is better for stability, so that's how it should be

it's just like real life, FWD has an upper limit to the practical handling when you get into more power and more weight, but you need to git gud to drive a RWD car to its potential.

There's no definitive answer on RWD vs FWD.

FWD is easier to control and more stable, and probably will give you faster times.
RWD is more difficult to learn and master, drifting around corners is fun but won't give you a good time on the leaderboard.

FWD is better for gravel rallying than RWD, always has been. RWD is better on tarmac for obvious reasons.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I suggest you reasearch the 90's kit cars class in rally. 2- liter N/A FWD cars with near 300hp were sometimes even faster than the 4wd cars on tarmac stages. Of course, they did fall back on gravel, since they often had issues catching any traction even in 3rd gear, but overall low weight, widebody and fairly short wheelbase made wonders for them.

Only thing I'd change as far as covet goes is add a widebody kit to it, similar to clio williams maxi and swap out the turbo for ITBs and tune it for 280-290 ish hp.

There's a reason why most irl rally cars are FWD. I guess RWD makes it extremely hard to recover from a slight slide, and this outweights all of its advantages. There may be more reasons why it sucks for rallying.

The fwd cars in this game seem a lot more fun to me than the rwd ones. Especially when they have ~250 horsepower

To me, this game has something odd happening with tires that get light, also in rallying RWD cars really benefit from wheelspin on gravel IRL, while in game it is not quite same.

No game gets rallying quite right, especially at gravel, imo. Also I know one WRC rally driver has often pointed out the same, so I guess I'm not completely wrong there :D

Still Beam gets pretty close especially at times, but sure there is something really odd in grip/weight/slip torque requirement area.

Yeah, simulating moving gravel would surely help but that would be insanely heavy on performance.

It is possible to set gravel surface to have tiny bit of depth and it works quite well, but when you get lateral behavior right, then longitudinal behavior is out of whack, but even current system can get digging effect happen with somewhat simple model, but sadly braking and accelerating will be then off.
