I found a funny custom version that pretends to be a police car lol

Won't even be too hard to make, just whitewall tires, beacons from Piccolina and a simple model for the thing on the roof, maybe I'll make it later when the mod is more complete

Actually it's the FL version that someone fitted with old parts for some reason. You can tell by the fact that there are holes for mounting the FL bumpers. And also by the fact that the current owner said so.

TBH Its what James May should have drove in The Police car challenge on Top gear. Not to be confused with bottom gear

Looks like it's specced to resemble the italian-built Series II, which was some sort of a hybrid between the italian-built Series I and the actual facelift (Series III) built by FSM.

It was essentially a stop-gap update to comply with the newest european regulations: position lights were moved to the main headlight unit (so turn signals became amber on all markets) and the rear plate holder was widened in order to fit new rectangular plates. On the outside, Series II was pretty similar to the earlier model, but it was immediately recognizable by the new steel rims the following "Unified" Series III by FSM was later equipped with.

That's all correct, except only for the Italian version. Poland has its own Series II too, it is not metioned on the Wikipedia. Essentially the engine upgrade to 650cc wasn't done on its own, it was introduced in Series II with some extras. Series II in Poland introduced various trims with different visuals:
    • 650 Standard, which looked like the Series 1 except it had a bigger engine, new mirror, new decklid and plate holder, and a radio
      maluch1.jpg
    • 650S, which had some internal upgrades, visually the difference was the glass
      dssadasd.png
    • 650L, which resembled the Economica trim from Italian Series II (there's one thing I don't get about this one, why did it not have any side mirrors???)
      sdqwsd.png
    • 650K, the richest and rarest trim which resembled the Personal 4P trim from Italian Series II
      rfssdf.png
    • And later also 650E, 650ES and 650EK which were basically these but significantly upgraded in terms of fuel efficiency and had some small changes.
So in Poland it was not immidiately recognisable. The only version that combined the new wheels and old bumper was 650L except it has those side bumper covers and optional bumper guards (not on the image). I think the bumpers were rather fitted to resemble American cars from the 70s/80s a bit.

Ok so in relation to the above I found out that...

Until 1984 in Poland, THE SIDE MIRRORS ON THIS CAR WERE AN OPTIONAL THING THAT YOU HAD TO PAY EXTRA FOR

YOU COULD HAVE THE CAR FROM FACTORY WITHOUT ANY MIRRORS

What the heck this is not safe at all lol

Well, even in Continental Europe, the driver-side mirror only became mandatory in the mid/late '70s, so before the introduction of stricter regulations, it was all up to the manufacturer to install any non-required safety feature.

Hence the "Economica" trim not having any...
