hey people of the forums. a while back (3 months or so) i heard that there was going to be openGL support for BeamNG at one point in the future. and i am wandering what this means, does this mean that BeamNG is going to support mac os x or linux and Ubuntu based operating systems? or both? i did some light forum searching and i came up dry with information on this exact ''mainly Linux based question'' any info is welcome and if a select few of you remember a nasty conflict that i and another guy by the name of POTATO i think it was? had on these forums please forgive me and please don't treat me poorly because of those past events. thanks in advance! random BeamNG nutt!
from the devs: "We are currently porting our game engine Torque3D to OpenGL, then to Linux and then to MacOS. The OpenGL port is nearly done. " it's from this blog so it's quite an old quote: http://www.beamng.com/entries/79-The-Pre-Race-Update-(in-some-weeks)
that made me chuckle a bit as ubuntu is a linux distro. But the gist of it is that the Torque3d devs are adding an OpenGL renderer to Torque3d along with linux support (OSX not planned until after). Once thats done then BeamNG can use it. Some of the BeamNG devs are also Torque3d devs.
Thanks for the quick response. it is good to know because i am an Ubuntu guy and my main laptop runs ubuntu. i do have a windows gaming PC but it would be nice to be able to take BeamNG everywhere i go. thanks again. random BeamNG Nutt - - - Updated - - - and yes. sixsixsevenseven is correct, Ubuntu is a liux distro. but in fact based on my experience linux mint 16 (a well known linux distro) does not have very good support for openGL games. but other Linux distros like Ubuntu have much better support for openGL.
You either have upto date OpenGL in your distro or you don't. I do call BS on mint not working with OpenGL as I regularly used to use linux mint which itself is forked from ubuntu anyway.
