The malware will connect to the internet as soon as your PC does still and also impacts local files. Under absolutely no circumstances should motioninjoy ever be used.

BetterDS3 uses MotioninJoy under the hood. Motioninjoy logs user data back to some server sitting on the other side of the great firewall or china. It also overwrites a load of the windows USB device descriptors, it has absolutely no reason to do that and has been known to cause blue screens or malfunction of other USB devices connected to the machine (even when running the controller in bluetooth mode, no doubt they used an absolute hack to get the PC to communicate with the bluetooth device with modded descriptors, its just there is no reason to do it that way when its been shown to be screwing with the rest of the machine and it can be done through win32 natively).
The issue with the old MotionInJoy is that it doesnt function at all without an internet connection. BetterDS3 and a few other tools sometimes manage to block its ability to perform its datalogging, not sure if anybody actually knows what data its even sending.

The bottom line is that MotionInJoy can only be categorised as malware in disguise and unfortunately any other tool which acts as a wrapper around it (such as BetterDS3) due to the USB issues should also gain that categorisation.

There is another DS3 driver somewhere which does not use MotionInJoy at all but I can't recall the name of it.

Interesting read, I just uninstalled motioninjoy. It is true that motioninjoy messed with drivers, it completely deleted my bluetooth driver and replaced it lol, that's why windows updater always wanted to download the same bluetooth driver over and over again, because everytime I ran motioninjoy that driver was being deleted

Well, after reading this about DS3, i feel like a complete f*****g idiot, no wonder i had bluescreens with my controller plugged in, at first i thought it was because my PC overheated (happened before DS3) so i kept my play time low on Beam as that's the one it overheated on (when i say DS3 i mean DS3 tool which uses MotionInJoy, I had no idea and hve used it for months D: )

Hi guys... long time since I posted here. So I have the Steam thingy all set up now... Yeah Steam sent my files to my pc... I ran the game no fps issues... But! all my tracks and extra vehicles are gone! Thank god, they are still in my old BeamNG directory! My question now is... where do I go to drop all my tracks and cars into? I right clicked on my new BeamNG start icon and looked at details, and it only shows steam://rungameid/284160

I also went to my steam directory, went to games and did not find all the cars or tracks... Help! please ;)

EDIT: So I figured it out... went through all of Steams folders and found it!
there should be a Sticky note for D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\BeamNG.drive\vehicles LOL!!!

That's really amazing to me. One I didn't know Gog servers could download that fast through the web browser, two you must have better internet than me (stupid US and it's terrible internet compared to other parts of the world) and three maybe your steam is downloading from an incorrect server or you have something else slowing it down. In my experience the Gog downloader and Steam are far and away faster than using a web browser. Also much more reliable too, if a web browser download stops in the middle it has to be restarted the others will just resume where they left off.

It's a shame to see someone leave this game solely because of steam.

On another note Scarlet Crush Productions (SCP) have the best drivers for PS3 controllers I have found. Glad someone posted that because once I saw that stuff about motionnjoy I got a bit concerned because it is a horrible program. I uninstalled it a while ago but still feel like I should format and reinstall windows to be sure it's all gone. Problem is that is so much damn work to reinstall everything, haha, (hashbrown)firstworldproblems.

If you go in the SCP website, it gives you a tutorial on how to completely remove MiJ apart from registries but they won't do anything once everything else related to MiJ is gone

When in doubt, restart Steam. It's always Steam's fault lol.

Since I'm the part of that 1% of the community, which are staunch Steam skeptics, I find the above info somewhat calming. I really hate it when I buy a game, particularly a physical copy (like Mafia II for instance), and I'm forced to use steam to run it. And that's twice as annoying when the game itself doesn't even fully benefit from it as it doesn't support any form of online multiplayer (which, I must admit, makes sense on steam and is pretty straightforward). I'm looking forward for a non-autoupgradeable stand alone edition tdev mentioned at some point.
