- The font put me off a little (font different in pop-up menus) - Repository delete all button prompt doesn't show up - Thin white line pop-up menu isn't great - Only dark mode? - uneven spacing between level previews when selecting world - world/level preview title text is too close to the beam.ng logo - track builder button threw me right into the loading screen - repository mod previews doesnt fill the entire page, too small keep it up --- Post updated --- oh and less is more!
i can see the appeal of the new design but i think it is unnecessary. the old menu should be brought back as a toggleable option, with the side bar and radial menu intact.
Honestly, It's alright, but there are a few major things (for me at least) that make it really feel not so good. Here's my thoughts: -I am not a fan of the forced dark mode colors! It makes everything a bit hard to see and it clashes with the usual brightness of everything else -I would love a way to change the side of the screen it appeared on! Personally, I prefer it being on the left side so everything is less spread out, but I bet there are some people that would like the option to put it at the bottom or right side as well. -A way to toggle between different sound effect options? I liked the old click sound effect wayyyyy more than this early 2010's resource management game menu noise it uses now, and this could allow for more user customization with mods or other official sound packs. -Hiding the mission zones on the world but not the map overview would be a nice option to have. I like being able to look around at scenic views without big blue ground circles obstructing it, especially with the nice new PBR'd maps, but I also like being able to see them on that new overview thing. This one isn't too major, it would just be a nice option to have
The new UI does give a new look to BeamNG however, I still prefer the pre v0.24 UI because it did not change your controls to add features that I honestly will not use. I would like to request for there to be a settings option to use the old UI as from looking at Reddit and asking friends, it seems there is a good amount of people who want the old UI.
BUG: When i turned on the toggle to Show FPS in the graphics tab of the settings window, the white FPS window appeared along the top left of the screen showing the statistics. When i left the graphics tab i am unable to access that settings tab anymore because the FPS window covers it, and i cannot click anything underneath the window. Now i cannot turn it back off because i cant access the settings tab with the toggle. If there's a workaround please let me know! --- Post updated --- Like this here.
the esc menu seems to grab my controller's inputs even when it's closed other than that i really dig the new look
Would be nice if pressing ESC to close out of the vehicle selector or other options also closed the menu And also maybe change the pause to something more visible like it was with the previous UI with the big pause symbol Other than that and the known quick access menu bug, I find the UI to be refreshing compared to the old one, the sounds are much nicer and it seems to run faster. It also fits the games theme more imo
Is there still no way to turn off UI hardware acceleration? My PC is pretty GPU bottlenecked in beam and I get 15-20fps more when I turn off the UI.
Yeah because you gotta get used to it. It's essentially the same thing but they changed positions for some of the stuff.
Mhh interesting, am I basically the only person in the world that loves the new menu sounds? It's so satisfying to click on anything now. And that new map - I love it, it is awesome, I cannot stress this enough. Phenomenal. Yes, the new UI is new, it is different, but it will take a while to get used to, and I'm sure it will be fine. I find it much easier to press buttons now for a start. I'm sure it'll grow on many people. If someone came and suddenly took away your smartphone OS you had been using for seven years and changed it for a different one, I'm sure you would have difficulties as well, even if it might be better than the old one. I have to say it one more time tho - that new overview map, so great, so smooooth. I love swooshing in and out of it...
I personally prefer the radial menu, and the fact that I can't hide the filters on the vehicle suggestion menu and that the pictures are much larger is a little annoying, but aside from that, the new UI is alright.
On my computer I find that the new ui is a bit stuttery and doesn't feel smooth. The bottom bar that has the controls while on vehicle parts selector I find annoying. I can't seem to click on the option "hide app in first person view" unless that bottom bar is over it. UI app torque curve doesn't seem to want to work when in the parts selector which when tuning an engine is annoying. I do not liek the dark mode setup. I find it too hard to see properly.
Apart from the radial menu issue (which I fixed by turning the game off and back on again, lol) it's actually been quite nice. I'm apparently in the minority that likes the menu sounds - they sound pretty neat! I just have to get used to Shift-N for lightbar (but I am a huge fan of the gps feature of the new map, makes navigation in huge maps like WCUSA so much easier.) as for performance drops, I personally haven't seen any that are out of the normal for this update. the UI lags sometimes but I'm running this game on a potato?? so it makes sense.
The new UI is interesting. I'm not against change so I think I can get used to it but it needs some improvement. The biggest pain points for me are: Unable to exit to the main menu. I can only quit the game entirely. The debug menu is now in the vehicle customization tab instead of a separate button. It seems like an unnecessary change. The replay button either goes to a different folder or older replays weren't migrated between versions. (not sure if it's UI). Unable to bind fog lights and underglow to separate commands.
